Japan's first autonomous taxi — Tier IV SAM Talk
Our second SAM Talk of 2021 explored the Enable pillar of Hexagon's Smart Autonomous Mobility portfolio through the example of our partners at Tier IV, who launched the first autonomous taxi service in Japan late last year.
 
Hexagon's Autonomy & Positioning division Chief Autonomous Officer Bobby Hambrick and Tier IV Chief Technical Officer Shinpei Kato dissected the robotaxi's unique combination of Autoware autonomous driving software and custom PACMod 3.0 drive-by-wire system development from AutonomouStuff.

Product highlight: Hexagon | NovAtel has GRIT
Hexagon | NovAtel introduced GNSS Resilience and Integrity Technology (GRIT) late last year to counter evolving threats to assured positioning. The suite of firmware features enables trusted situational awareness and interference mitigation tools across applications and environments.

NovAtel is committed to expanding its solutions for the most reliable, trustworthy and resilient position, navigation and timing (PNT) measurements possible.

Meet the team: Charlie Schneider
Charlie Schneider is the most recent addition to the AS team, joining us as Facilities Manager at our Morton headquarters with 20 years of experience in technical management, process maintenance and facilities. He's a safety trained supervisor with credentials from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, and he has served 21 years in the Army National Guard.

"When I applied for the position and read the job description, I felt this was a perfect fit with my experience and skill sets," Charlie said. "When I discovered what AS did, I was really excited to be part of a fascinating industry which is truly cutting-edge technology. I am looking very forward to learning more about the business, bringing value to the team and promoting a strong safety culture."
