Welcome to this month's Caring Palms Healing Arts newsletter. This month, we have some news and a couple articles for you.
New classes will be scheduled and announced by next month's newsletter. Because of the pandemic, the number of classes have been limited, and the number of students per each class has been limited to four so we can social distance ourselves during the lecture periods.
I hope you enjoy what we have compiled here.

Caring Palms Honored (Again)
Caring Palms has again been honored by Expertise.com, picking us as one of the top 15 massage establishments in Jacksonville. Not only did they choose us out of 204 businesses in town, they also rated our reputation with an “A”. (They rated five of the 15 massage establishments with “A”, and one with an “A+”. All the others were unrated.)
Their goal is to connect people with the best local experts. They scored Jacksonville Massage Therapists on more than 25 variables across five categories, and analyzed the results to give you a hand-picked list of the best. They initially looked at 204 therapists, then curated 128 of them, and picked the top 15.
To determine who was the best, they looked in the following areas and followed the following process (taken from their website)…
- Availability
- Finding Potential Picks
- First, we identify all the potential providers in a community. We use public databases and customer referrals to collect an exhaustive list of local businesses, checking their availability and service areas.
-
- Qualifications
- Look for Accreditations, Awards, and Licenses
- Next, we validate each business' qualifications. We know which professions require a license or certification to operate in your area, and we find providers who have gone above and beyond to educate themselves in their area of expertise.
-
- Reputation
- Analyze Review Data
- We scour public records and information to determine each provider’s reputation. Every provider is analyzed based on the number of professional databases reviewing them, their average review score, and the volatility of their ratings.
-
- Experience
- Assess Service Capabilities
- After our screening processes, we select our finalists based on a provider’s primary area of expertise, the variety of services they offer, and their years of experience.
-
- Professionalism
- Mystery Shopping
- Finally, our mystery shoppers call each company, identifying themselves as potential customers, to gauge knowledgeability, friendliness, and professionalism.
Caring Palms is honored to again receive this identifying mark of excellence. Now you know when you come here, you are getting the best.

Compassion
by Brian Dean
While the words in here came to me while doing a reading, they are important for life, important in our approach to life, and important in how we go through life.
Let’s start with Compassion. One needs compassion for others and for themselves. We need to care about the people we are working for, working with, or are working for us. We need to make sure that that what we do lives up to a high standard as we care about the result. Another spinoff of Compassion is Passion. We need to have passion for what we do, and if we don’t we need to find something that we are passionate about. These two words make us care about what we do (and I’m not just talking about our jobs).
I worked for a contractor for the government years ago, and someone I worked with used to say, “Good enough for government work.” It was like saying I can do a half-assed job because it is good enough for those that I work for. Why would anyone who cares about what they do want to do a poor job? Again, compassion and passion make us strive to be better, to be the best.
Next is Empathy. We have to understand those around us and know how they feel. This will drive us to be better at what we do while being better at being human. If we understand how others feel, why would be ever do something to hurt someone? It means showing kindness and consideration, those things we hope they show us.
And then there is Love. We need to love people, and we’re not talking romantic love, but love of what someone is or what they do (I love the way they make me laugh). It brings with it the understanding that everyone is here for a reason. That reason may be to challenge you to make you grow, or to support you when you do stand up for yourself. If we accept that, we can love their purpose as well as our own.
But now when we move to what we do, we need to do it with Intention. And that intension must be pure, centered, and loving, whether it be talking care of someone, or bagging groceries. My intention is to do the best job I can, create the best things possible. When I work, I approach what I do with a purity and clarity of intention… to help. But I also have that same approach if I’m gardening, or building something, or putting down floors. This is one creating the guiding path for them to follow.
Next comes Ethics. If your intentions are pure, then you should be working ethically and morally. Ethics is doing something good for positive reasons, to have no underlying purpose. This means working in the light, the power of positiveness. Always be ethical in your approach, and if your intentions are pure, then you will be.
And with these, we finally come to Follow Up, or Follow Through, probably the latter is the better. If we have the care, the feelings, and the love to set pure intentions and work ethically, then we need to follow through and complete what it is that we are doing. Only by concluding what we start, we make change, change on the very high levels and the very low as change needs to occur at all levels for change to continue to grow.
So have compassion, and passion, and empathy, and love, and pure intentions, and then follow through. And most of all, work with kindness.

Kindness
by Brian Dean
Kindness. Where has it gone? Why has it seemed to have disappeared in society today?
We rush through life trying to get this done, and that done. We seem to be in a hurry to do everything. There is not enough time. But during that time, isn’t there time to be kind?
I look at what I do on a regular basis, and I see certain patterns, especially when I am loose in public. I tend to look around me and see if I’m inconveniencing others. I move my cart so I’m not blocking the aisle when I’m in the grocery.
I tend to be pleasant with people at the checkout, and people in general. That doesn’t mean I don’t get annoyed. Sometimes I do, like what someone thinks they are the only person in a store and block aisle. I will sit there for a moment, then say “Excuse me.” I won’t be nasty, but I will not stand there forever. I will also not be mean as that benefits no one.
While I may drive a little fast, I’m not the person that cuts in and out of traffic. I allow others to merge in. I leave space in case someone needs to change lanes. I also close up space in stopped traffic as I know it may allow others to get into a turn lane, or get into moving traffic.
I also talk to others, like repair people. I wave to the mail carrier, and the trash collector. I smile at people (which is a little harder with masks nowadays).
The point is that being kind is not a big sacrifice, nor have to take up a lot of time. It only takes a second to smile at someone. Or say a kind word. Or wave. It is a nice thing to do. It lets people know that they are appreciated. And let’s be real, it’s nice to be appreciated.
So, whatever you’re going to do tomorrow, whatever you’re going to be, be kind. It’s worth the effort, and to someone else, it might be worth a whole lot more.

Leave a Review, Enter Our Drawing
|
Leave a review and be entered in a drawing to win a free session. If you have enjoyed the services at Caring Palms, whether that be massage, Reiki, or classes, or something else, please leave a review on one of the review sites like Google, Facebook, or any of the many places that take reviews. Lately, it has been these reviews that have been bringing new clients into the studio, and all have been glad they found us.
Anyone leaving a review will be entered into the monthly drawing to win a free session (massage or Reiki). Reviews made between the first and last day of each month will go into the drawing, and the winner will be pulled on the first of every month. Thank you all that have left reviews, and congratulations to the people who have already won free sessions.
Note: We are asking people not to post on Yelp unless you are a person that posts there regularly. Yelp has some qualifying software that looks at each review, and if you are a regular poster, your comment is deemed "Relevant", otherwise your comment is marked "Not Relevant". While Caring Palms has 20 5-star reviews on Yelp, only seven of them are deemed "Relevant", and one has to go through another step to see the remaining 13.

Advanced Body Mechanics and Techniques

The following is a list of currently scheduled classes. This class is a two-day class worth 12 CE hours for massage therapists. Each class (unless otherwise marked) currently has a status of 'Scheduled'. This means that a date has been set, but no one has signed up for it yet. Once a deposit has been received for a class, the status will be 'Confirmed'. The schedule is as follows:
You may sign up for any of these through the website, or over the phone with a credit card.
Each class is limited to four people so we are not cramped. It takes a minimum of two people for this class to happen, and those signing up for it need to do so at least one week before the scheduled date.

Maximize your results with less effort. Utilize the science of martial arts and apply it to massage. Advanced Body Mechanics and Techniques for Massage Therapists, is designed to reconnect the massage therapist with proper body mechanics and techniques while putting a new twist on things and showing how to get more pressure with little effort. While it does go over some basics, it takes body mechanics to a new level where every move involves the use of the therapist's entire body so they can work without hurting themselves. The class being part lecture, part hands-on practice takes positions, centering, and the proper use of body strength from Japanese martial arts and applies them to the art of massage therapy. It also shows how to focus one's energies to increase their strength with simple exercises meant to teach the student how to 'think' beyond where they are working so they can get deeper into the client and to channel their energies to the point of thought. The student will learn how to focus their energies and use their body to do deep work and not get hurt. This class will help anyone to work deeply with less effort no matter if one is 90 pounds or 250 pounds. This class is for both the seasoned therapist and the new therapist. It will show moves everyone does, but in a new light as well as moves many people may not have seen before. The idea is not to dictate how to practice, but to show better body mechanics which the therapist can adapt to what they do. This is true whether they adapt all of it or just part of it.
Florida Board of Massage Approved for twelve (12) Continuing Education Hours (CEUs)
Class Cost: $300
This class is for licensed massage therapists or anyone that regularly uses massage in their practice. For those looking to learn basic massage for relaxation for their partner or friends, see the website on the Massage For Couples classes.
To sign up for classes, go to the website and select Continuing Education, Advanced Body Mechanics and Techniques, and Class Schedule to see additions and changes or to sign up.

Caring Palms Hosts Mediumship Classes
|
Currently, all of Marilyn's class are being held online through Zoom. If you want to take a class, call her and she will tell you what you need to do. When this changes, you will see it here first.
Every month, Caring Palms is host a mediumship class taught by Marilyn Jenquin of the International Foundation for Spiritual Knowledge. In this class, Marilyn teaches the British style of mediumship (this is similar to the style used by John Edward). Each class contains a lecture, a meditation, and class exercises. This is for all ranges of students from the beginner, to the long time student.
Mediumship is a method of communicating with people who are no longer in their physical body, but in the spirit world. The class teaches students to do evidential readings as exercises so they get comfortable developing a relationship with those in spirit. This class is for anyone wanting to work with spirit whether they intend to become professional mediums or simply to use it in their everyday lives.
Classes are usually scheduled the fourth Thursday of each month from 1pm to 3:30pm at the Caring Palms studio. For more information, go to the IFSK Website where you can learn more about this, check class schedules and locations, and get contact information.

New Procedures due to the Pandemic
Because of the ongoing issue with COVID 19, there will be changes in procedures to keep everyone (client and therapist alike) safe.
- Everyone coming in will have their temperature taken by a non-touch forehead thermometer. Anyone with a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will be asked to come back another time.
- A new form has been added letting you know that everything possible is being done to keep the disease from spreading. Basically, it is an information disclaimer like people sign for massage or Reiki sessions.
- During the intake process, while scanning, spirit will be asked if it is safe to work on that client.
- The client will be required to wear a face mask while they are face up (supine) during the session. If you do not have a mask, a disposable one will be provided.
- Your therapist will be wearing a mask during the entire session.
- After the session, all surfaces touched will be wiped down with disinfectant, and some will be cleaned through UV light.
-
We have added a Hepa/UV filter in the room that will be running at all times.
These procedures will not be bypassed under any circumstances. The idea is to keep everyone safe, yet allow them to get their needed sessions.
Also, if you normally refuse to wear a mask when going about normal errands, please wait to come in. If you have been in large groups that do not wear masks, please wait to come in. If you know that you have been exposed to people that have COVID, please wait to come in until you know you do not have it. This is for our safety as well as yours.

|
Brian is now doing readings to anyone that wants to sit for one for $50 for up to one hour. Keep in mind, these are mediumship readings, not psychic readings. If you have an interest, please contact Brian and something can be scheduled. These can also be scheduled from the website.
