Upcoming Classes
There are new classes available on the website. The classes from now to the end of the year includes one class of each level happening in October, November, and December respectively. We do have interest in a Reiki 4 class, so details are still being worked out, like whether that happens this year or next.
The website is currently taking payments for these classes. If you are interested in any of these classes, please sign up for them as soon as possible.
Note: Caring Palms is no longer using the Holiday Inn due to the price increase, and has moved to the TownPlace Suites near the corner of Beach Blvd and Hodges Blvd in Jacksonville. This is about four miles from the Holiday Inn. The address is 13741 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32224. The TownPlace Suites is still an increase over the old location but not as much, and may still warrant an increase in class price (so buy your classes now before the price increases). A minimum of four students is required to hold a class at the hotel. Any class with less than four students will be cancelled or trimmed to two students and held at the studio. (We just had a masters class at the studio with two students and managed to be quiet enough to not disturb the other therapists, so this is a doable option.) The decision on whether to hold the class at the hotel or not needs to be made one week before the class date, or Caring Palms will still have to pay for the rental of the room. So, if you are thinking about signing up for a class, don't wait until the last minute.

Compassion
by Brian Dean
Why is there so little of this nowadays? Do we not have the energy? Are there too many in need? Are we just lazy? All good questions, but how do we answer them?
According to Webster, Compassion is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. This derives from Passion, any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate.
There is certainly a lot of misfortune and suffering going on right now. So, what is going on? Do we not care about others? Or are we too centered on ourselves? In this crazy world where we are always rushing off to do something, maybe we just don’t have the time.
There is one hand where the people who create the violence care little enough about others that they would hurt them for a cause, or an idea. They think that there is nothing more important than winning, and will trample over anyone in their way, no matter what happens to them.
Then there are those that see this, and while they care, they can’t do anything about it. Not everyone can stand up to protect these people, nor can they send money to a cause.
But what can we do? First off, we need to care. We need to care when something bad happens to others. We need to care when we see evil happening. Obviously, we can’t drop everything we are doing, or care to the point that we get depressed. But we can take a few minutes and visualize. Visualize things being better. Visualize love being the emotion that wins out.
You see, visualizing moves energy. Energy is what changes things on a subtle level. And the beauty is that it only takes five minutes to create that image and see it happening. You don’t need to be an energy worker to do it. All you need to do is see the good winning out, and pushing that out into the ether. If we keep adding drops of energy, before long we will have a flood. It took a lot of drops to make the oceans, but that’s how it started.
So take that five minutes daily. See others being helped. Be compassionate.

Featured Shirt of the Month
Since people do not see the t-shirt designs too often, a new shirt will be featured each month.

Caring Palms schedules Reiki classes throughout the year. Because we can not hold them at the studio as we have in the past, we are holding them at another location, and this incurs additional cost. Therefore, we are not scheduling as many classes as we used to. We are also holding classes for a minimum 4 or more students. We also need to let the class site know a week before the class date whether we will be having it or not. So, if you are interested, sign up early.
The following is a list of currently scheduled Reiki Classes. Each class (unless otherwise marked) currently has a status of 'Scheduled'. This means that a date has been set, but no one has signed up for it yet. Once a deposit has been received for a class, the status will be 'Confirmed'. Any class marked as 'Closed' has filled up. (Note: In some cases, one may be able to enter a class marked 'Closed' with permission of the instructor.) Because we are renting the location per use, each class requires a minimum of four (4) students to happen.
You may sign up for any of these through the website, or over the phone with a credit card.
Reiki 1
- Saturday, October 7, 10am - 5(ish)pm Confirmed
Reiki 2
- Saturday, November 4, 10am - 5(ish)pm
Reiki 3
- Saturday, December 2, 10am - 5(ish)pm Confirmed
Reiki 4
More classes will be added based on how the ones currently on the schedule go.
All classes are open to anyone wanting to learn this unique method of hands-on healing. The cost for each class is $150 no matter what level of Reiki the class is for. A $75 deposit is required a minimum of seven (7) days prior to the class date (or permission of the instructor) to reserve a space in the class. Full payment must be received two (2) days before the class date. Classes with no deposits received by the cut off date will be canceled. All class statuses may be viewed under Reiki, Reiki Class Information, and Class Schedule. You can also sign up for classes there. (Check the website for the location.)
Reiki 1, 2, and 3 classes are Florida Board of Massage Approved for six (6) Continuing Education Hours (CEUs)

Empathy
by Brian Dean
Working along with compassion, we can be empathetic, to feel for others, to understand their pain. Sometimes that comes from being an empath, but that is not always the necessity.
But let’s start from the beginning. What is an empath? It is a person that can feel the emotions of others. If you ever watched Star Trek: The Next Generation, you are familiar with the character of Deanna Troi who was a powerful empath. She had lines like, “Captain, I feel fear.”, and “I feel anger.” and should have had one like “I feel bad script writing.”
While in the “real” world, empaths are people that are swayed by emotions. They could walk into a room where people are happy and suddenly be happy. Or they could walk into a room where people are angry, and they would suddenly become angry, even though they have no reason to be so.
The real key to an empath is to realize what emotion is theirs and what is not. They also need to learn some type of shielding to protect themselves from stray emotions. And they need to know that empathy is a tool. It is there to understand, to feel what someone is going through, not to take their problems in and make them their own.
Through this “gift”, we become aware of what others are going through. We understand their struggle. And we become compassionate about it. And that makes us want to help in whatever way we can.
So whether you feel someone’s pain directly, or indirectly, do something. Wish things to be better. Send care. Say a prayer. Visualize. But do something. That is what will change things.

Leave a Review, Enter Our Drawing
|
Leave a review and be entered in a drawing to win a free session. If you have enjoyed the services at Caring Palms, whether that be massage, Reiki, or classes, or something else, please leave a review on one of the review sites like Google, Facebook, or any of the many places that take reviews. Lately, it has been these reviews that have been bringing new clients into the studio, and all have been glad they found us.
Anyone leaving a review will be entered into the monthly drawing to win a free session (massage or Reiki). Reviews made between the first and last day of each month will go into the drawing, and the winner will be pulled on the first of every month. Thank you all that have left reviews, and congratulations to the people who have already won free sessions.
Note: We are asking people not to post on Yelp unless you are a person that posts there regularly. Yelp has some qualifying software that looks at each review, and if you are a regular poster, your comment is deemed "Relevant", otherwise your comment is marked "Not Relevant". While Caring Palms has 20 5-star reviews on Yelp, only seven of them are deemed "Relevant", and one has to go through another step to see the remaining 13.

If you have an interest, please contact Brian and something can be scheduled. These can also be scheduled from the website.
