Message from the City Manager
|
March 1, 2021
Hello Everyone,
On Saturday, I helped facilitate an all day priority-setting workshop with the Council and many of our City leadership team. I want to first thank Council and staff for giving up their Saturday to tackle this important work. I left the workshop feeling inspired for our City’s future. I feel that we were able to tackle some very difficult topics in a very constructive way. We spent much of the morning going over some very important documents that help provide direction to the City, including our General Plan. We also reviewed some of the important pending work of the Community Development Department, much of that related to housing, and the Public Works Department. Next week I will be discussing the important priorities Council established regarding our critical infrastructure, including our roads.
What I want to take a moment to highlight here, are the important Strategic Goals that were validated by City Council at our meeting. These goals are critically important as they serve as the compass that serves to guide your City staff in our day-today work:
- PROTECT COMMUNITY HEALTH AND SAFETY
- MAINTAIN AND ENHANCE A HIGH QUALITY OF LIFE
- PRESERVE AND ENHANCE INFRASTRUCTURE
- STRENGTHEN ECONOMIC AND FISCAL CONDITIONS
- PROTECT AND ENHANCE THE ENVIRONMENT
- HIGH PERFORMING GOVERNMENT
One of the most profound changes in the way we are conducting the priority-setting workshops now it to include some hard timelines and measurements of success. We feel this is incredibly important to achieving these important but very challenging priority projects that we are targeting.
Thank you to everyone who watched or participated. I look forward to conducting our annual priority-setting workshop in person next February! On that note, I hope to see many of our wonderful seniors Tuesday as we host our second dose vaccine clinic!
Thank you for your interest in the City of Benicia This Week!

Vote for Benicia Businesses
|
Give your favorite Benicia businesses some love by voting for them in this year's Best of the East Bay contest. After spending many long months at home—and not being able to enjoy all the people, places, and things you love—it's important to celebrate this year’s Best of the East Bay!
Diablo Magazine asks that you tell them what you missed most, what you can’t live without, and where you’re excited to go again. They also want to know what helped you get through the pandemic, whether it was the best restaurant takeout, virtual entertainment, or socially distanced exercise.
ENTER TO WIN: Vote by March 31 and you’ll be entered to win a stay at The Inn at the Tides in Bodega Bay.

First St Building Gets Facelift
|
The Community Development Department shares that a fter several years of rehabilitation work, the City is proud to announce that all of the permitting process has been completed for the property at 901 First Street (old Paper Tiger building) and clearance has been obtained ready for new tenants. This is a wonderful building and now that the scaffolding has been removed, it will continue to grace Benicia's downtown with its beauty, ready to welcome new tenants.
