Support for Military Families

Conger Elementary School is proud to support military families that live in our community. We value the sacrifice and dedication our military students and their families demonstrate each day. We wish to encourage and support our military families through a variety of resources available at Conger Elementary. Our School Guidance Counselor, Social Skills Specialist and Administrators are here to support you with any concerns, questions or assistance. At Conger Elementary, we recognize and support our military in the following ways:

-Veterans Day classroom lessons.

-Veterans Day grade level collaboration to celebrate Veterans creates a school bulletin board.

-Veterans Day staff appreciation for those who have served our country.

-Support military families before, during and after deployment.

-Our school website with a link for military families and students to provide resources and agencies for support.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if we can support your military family in any way.

From our School Counselor, Mrs. Glissman:

This month in the classroom, students are focusing on emotional regulation and learning how to manage strong feelings in healthy ways. Here’s what each grade level will be working on:

  • Kindergarten & 1st Grade: We’re learning to notice the physical signs in our bodies that tell us we’re feeling strong emotions, like tension in our hands or butterflies in our stomach. Students will practice identifying these signals to help them recognize when they’re getting upset.
  • 2nd & 3rd Grade: Students will explore the brain science behind emotions, including the role of the amygdala (the brain’s "alarm system") and the prefrontal cortex (the part of the brain that helps us think and calm down). We’ll talk about what happens when we "flip our lid" and how to "reset" our brains.
  • 4th & 5th Grade: These students will try out different coping strategies for managing big emotions, such as deep breathing, taking a break, or using positive self-talk. They’ll reflect on which strategies work best for them.

Tips for Supporting Emotional Regulation at Home:

  • Encourage Self-Awareness: Help your child notice their own "body cues" when they’re upset (e.g., clenched fists, shallow breathing).
  • Model Calmness: Use calm-down strategies yourself when you’re feeling stressed, so your child can see how it’s done.
  • Create a Calm-Down Corner: Set up a special space where your child can go to relax when they’re overwhelmed—maybe with pillows, a favorite book, or calming music.

Thank you for supporting your child’s emotional growth!

If we meet our goal of 400 cans of corn, we will all have a PAJAMA DAY!

The Mobile Dentist is Coming December 4th

Great News! Conger Elementary has partnered with Smile Programs...the mobile dentist to offer dental care at school.

Best of all, in most cases, there is NO COST to you if your child is insured with Medicaid/ CHIP! Private insurance and affordable self pay options are also available.

Easy & Convenient

Having your child seen by the dentist at school saves you valuable time. Top quality care is provided by local, licensed dentists, in the familiar surroundings of your child's school. Dental care includes a complete exam, x-rays, cleaning, flouride, and sealants when necessary, and in some cases, restorative fillings.

Keep Your Child Healthy

Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like early tooth decay, gum disease, heart disease, speech impairment.
