Parent Night: Internet Safety

with Jesse Weinberger!

Mark your calendars! On October 3rd at Willis at 6pm, our district is thrilled to welcome internet safety expert Jesse Weinberger from Overnight Geek University to present an eye-opening and engaging session for parents about keeping your kids safe online.

Even if you have a parent-teacher conference that evening, this is an event you won’t want to miss! Your elementary school principals and counselors will be attending as district representatives, so you can connect with them on this important topic too.

Make it a fun night out--whether you grab dinner or grab friends and make it a Parents' Night Out, you'll gain valuable insights and tips on managing your child’s online presence in today’s digital world, all while enjoying a break from the routine.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Let's all work together to make our community a more child- friendly place to walk and ride.

All students who walk or ride on October 16th will be greeted by Delaware Public Health staff and volunteers and will receive a small gift.

IDENTIFYING OUR EMOTIONS

In October, all grades will be focusing on identifying emotions. Kindergarteners will use mirrors to explore how facial expressions give clues to our emotions. First graders will create emotion wheels to help name their feelings, while second graders will play Emotion Charades to practice reading facial and body clues. Third graders will play Four Corners, identifying emotions in different scenarios, and fourth graders will discuss how we can feel more than one emotion at a time using emojis. Fifth graders will explore how emotions affect our choices and consequences.

Throughout the month, we’ll also be using the Zones of Regulation, a framework that helps children recognize and manage their emotions. The Zones categorize feelings into four colors (blue, green, yellow, red), making it easier for kids to understand their emotions and how to respond. Adults can use this tool to guide kids in self-regulation by teaching them strategies to move between zones in healthy ways.
