Contra Costa County Airports is about to embark on the 14L/32R Runway Pavement Rehabilitation Project for which Buchanan Field received an approximately $5.3 million dollar grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This grant is the largest grant of Airport Improvement Plan (AIP) funds that Contra Costa County has received since the building of the Byron Airport.
The expected project start date is April 20, 2020. This project will be completed in five phases with phase 1 being the area of 14L/32R west of 19R. During the project, tenants should expect to encounter unfamiliar taxi routes, closed taxiways, closed runways, as well as substantial personnel and equipment on the airfield. Safety during this complex and valuable project is the number one goal for
Airport Operations
and we ask tenants to assist us by being cautious, taking extra time, and reporting any unsafe or concerning issues directly to OPS by calling 925-681-4221 or to FAA Ground Control via radio.
The Airport Team will continue to update all tenants and will post information on the
Airport website
as the project progresses. Much like the rehabilitation of Runway 1L/19R, that was successfully completed and closed out in 2013, this AIP project promises to provide our Airport with quality facilities for many years to come.
