Congratulations! You did it! You won the Nonprofits First “Hats Off” Nonprofit of the Year Award!

Yes, it was all of us who won that award! We simply could not exist, or do all that we do, without our staff, volunteers, donors, and cheerleaders! We need all of you – our village – to live up to our mission of empowering women to achieve economic independence.

One of the questions on the Hats Off nomination form was “Why does your organization deserve this honor?” I want to share with all of you our response, because I am sure you will agree!

  • We remain laser-focused on our mission of seeking to empower the women we serve.
  • We do so on a relatively shoestring budget and with a minimal paid staff of only three, but with a corps of loyal and enthusiastic VOLUNTEERS who help with career coaching, personal client styling, grant-writing, sorting through clothing donations and stocking inventory, administrative support, and fundraising.
  • We rose to the challenge of the COVID pandemic, reinventing delivery of our programs and demonstrated our viability in the absence of significant annual fundraising initiatives.
  • We took some bold, financially risky steps despite the COVID crisis, such as opening a Belle Glade branch and diverting $20,000 from our budget for a Discretionary Fund.
  • In the recycling of gently worn clothing from donors to clients, we’re doing our share for sustainability, reducing what might be headed to a landfill and contributing to a healthier environment and greener planet.

Again, congratulations to all of you!

And now I must ask you to stick with us for this final quarter of 2021 as we try to achieve our financial goals despite not holding our annual fundraising luncheon. Please continue reading to see the many ways you can help!

We are so honored to have won the Nonprofit of the Year - Small Nonprofit award at the Hats Off Nonprofit Awards hosted by Nonprofits First!
