Introducing Scholarly Research: Ready-to-Use Lesson Plans and activities for Undergraduates offers 33 time-saving lesson plans, that can assist in moving instruction beyond basic skills to include how to use a library database and the reasons scholars use them to explaining why peer review is important.

Time to Submit Your Book Recommendations
All faculty, students, and staff--now is the time to submit your recommendations for books to be purchased to support your teaching, research, and learning. Please include as much information as possible--author, title, date, publisher, etc. and indicate your preference for print or e-books. Please note there are some publisher restrictions with e-books including the number of pages you can download (usually 60 pages or less). If this will impede your use of the book, then be sure to indicate you are requesting print. We need your recommendations asap. Print books ordered for COA are housed at Gunter Library at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. Please email to: [email protected]

Welcome Megan!
Please join me in welcoming Megan Le to the position of Gunter Library Manager. Megan has held several part-time positions at Gunter Library including graduate assistant, library assistant, and a SLIS practicum student while she was working on her MLIS. Megan served as an evening adjunct librarian at the Gulf Coast Library from October 2022-November 2023.

Quick Shout Out
Over 50 people participated in the 2023 Coastal Clean Up at the East Beach site. Let’s give a big thank you to the following GCRL volunteers: James Klein, Hailee Nigro, Autumn Moya, Nimah Osho-Abdulgafar, Joyce Shaw, Megan Le, Eric Saillant, and Heloise Leonard. Volunteers cleaned the beach and along the roads leading to Halstead and Weeks Bayous.

Black Bear Program Leader

Historically, black bears have been an abundant and valuable native game species in the state of Mississippi. This presentation will outline the decline of black bear numbers around the turn of the 20th century, detail their natural rebound, and describe the growing abundance we are currently experiencing. We will also cover the research being conducted on black bears such as GPS collaring, reproductive success, and genetic data collection. Finally, we will explore the future of the black bear program, program goals, and how we can all take steps to avoid conflict with bears through public engagement.
- Bachelor of Science in Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture from Mississippi State University
- Master of Science in Wildlife Biology from University of Louisiana and Monroe
- Started with the Mississippi Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks in 2015.
- Officially took the bear program position in February of 2023
