Resource of the Month

The Mississippi Digital Library is the collaborative digital library for the state of Mississippi. Our mission is to provide an online space to search and explore Mississippi’s rich abundance of cultural and historical resources held by institutions and repositories from across the state. Emphasizing collection building and discoverability, our goal is to help our partners build sustainable, high-quality digital collections and deliver those materials to the researchers. We are committed to providing free open access to these digital collections. Made up of over 50 institutions, our partners include archives, historical societies, museums, public libraries, academic libraries and more. Partnership and searching the collections are always free!

Submit Your Book Recommendations

All faculty, students, and staff--now is the time to submit your recommendations for books to be purchased to support your teaching, research, and learning. Please include as much information as possible--author, title, date, publisher, etc. and indicate your preference for print or e-books. Please note there are some publisher restrictions with e-books including the number of pages you can download (usually 60 pages or less). If this will impede your use of the book, then be sure to indicate you are requesting print. We need your recommendations asap. Print books ordered for COA are housed at Gunter Library at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. Please email to: guntergcrl@usm.edu

Bays & Bayous

Bays and Bayous was held in Biloxi on November 19 and 20, 2024. GCRL affiliated faculty, students, and staff gave twenty-four (24) oral and poster presentations. Gunter Library head Joyce Shaw and staff members Megan Le and Brennan Collins participated in the poster session with a poster illustrating the history and impact of work done at GCRL about oysters. Ten articles by GCRL affiliated researchers were cited 80 times or more with one article by Dr. Eric Powell cited 287 times and one co-authored by Dr. Jay Grimes cited 259 times. The earliest article about oysters in the Gunter Library database of GCRL publications was by our second director Dr. Aubrey E. Hopkins in 1931 and the next oldest was by third director Dr. Gordon Gunter in 1938. COA PhD student Hailee Nigro won the best student presentation with her presentation: “Temperature-Sensitivity of Juvenile Blue Crab Intermolt Period and Growth-Per-Molt.”
