Resource of the Month:

Mendeley

Mendeley is a citation management and paper-sharing software program with both desktop and web-based components. The web-based portion, called Mendeley Online Library, allows users to save entries from any computer and add it to Mendeley Desktop later.

As a USM student, faculty, or staff member you can use the USM institutional access to Mendeley. This provides 300GB of storage space and up to 100 collaborators in a group. By signing up with a university email, ending in usm.edu, you will enjoy added benefits of Mendeley.

Join the Professional Skills class on Monday, October 31, at 11:30 am for an introduction to Mendeley, the reference management system. Justin Easterday, a librarian from the Gulf Coast Library at Gulf Park, is joining the class remotely to talk about how Mendeley can help you be more efficient with keeping up with the articles and books you are reading for your classes and projects. The web-based portion, called Mendeley Online Library, allows users to save entries from any computer and add it to Mendeley Desktop later.

Time to Order Books

All faculty, students, and staff--now is the time to submit your recommendations for books to be purchased to support your teaching, research, and learning. Please include as much information as possible--author, title, date, publisher, etc. Please indicate your preference for print or e-books. Please note there are some publisher restrictions with e-books including the number of pages you can download (usually 60 pages or less).

If this will impede your use of the book, then be sure to indicate you are requesting print. We need your recommendations by November 1.

Please email to: guntergcrl@usm.edu

Thank you for your support of Gunter Library!

GCRL Science Café -

Community Resilience - More than the Climate

Tuesday, October 25th - 6:00 - 7:00 pm

at the Marine Education Center

Join MEC Director Jessie Kastler for a refresher on climate change basics and factors that make a community vulnerable. Learn how middle and high school students would address some of these challenges to make their communities more resilient. Ranging from practical to highly unexpected, their ideas illustrate the possibilities that can come from a fresh outlook and thinking outside the box. Jessie will also take this opportunity to discuss the resilience of the MEC in adapting to pandemic conditions (don’t be surprised if someone mentions Zoom) and building for the future.

This Science Cafe will be hybrid, participants may join via Facebook Live (see link below to MEC Facebook page) or Zoom.

You are invited to a Zoom webinar.

When: October 25, 2022 06:00 PM Central Time (US and Canada)
