In early January, after a year of trailer life, Gunter Library returned to its original home on the first floor of the Caylor Building. While we are continuing to empty boxes, reorganize offices, and shelve books, we are open for business with six computers—one with a treadmill for health conscious library users—book, journals, and special collections to fulfill your every library need. Gunter Library is open 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday (closed noon to 1 pm). Online resources are open 24/7 at .

Resource of the month: Gulf Research Reports
|
|
|
|
Begun in 1961 by Gulf Coast Research Laboratory Director Dr. Gordon Gunter as Gulf Research Reports (GRR), Gulf and Caribbean Research (GCR) is the last remaining regional peer-reviewed scientific journal focusing on marine and estuarine research in and along the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. In 2015 GCR became the second journal published via Aquila, the institutional repository at The University of Southern Mississippi University Libraries. Starting with volume 26, GCR became a hybrid open access (OA) journal with a rolling wall of 5 years for access to non-OA articles. GCR has all back issues from vol. 1 1961 available in Aquila.

"One Lake" Project and the Pearl River
|
Tuesday, January 29, 2019
6 - 7 p.m. in GCRL Dining Hall
703 East Beach Drive, Ocean Springs
The “One Lake” project will dredge and further impound the main channel of the Pearl River in urban Jackson, Mississippi.
A local drainage district is sponsoring the dredging project, which the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in its recent comment letter, called the most “environmental damaging” alternative for flood control along the Pearl River. The project would widen the river, and in the process, destroy 1862 acres of riparian bottomland hardwood and other wetlands. Two threatened species protected by the Endangered Species Act, Gulf sturgeon and ringed sawback turtle would lose 10 miles of river habitat.
Coffee and cookies provided by
Coffee Fusion.
Additional snacks provided by
GCRL's Gunter Library.
Sponsored by Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium.

Topics of high regional interest, such as the “One Lake” Project, often arise which are well-suited to the format of Science Café as a means of public information and discussion. Science Café is pleased to offer this seminar as the first of hopefully multiple discussions on the various aspects of the “One Lake” project.
