Resource of the Month
This month’s resource is the subject guide “Avoiding Plagiarism.” It includes a link to a very useful plagiarism tutorial that is a real revelation! Yes, it is plagiarism to reuse your previously published works. The key to avoiding plagiarism is cite, cite, cite. Because we know that as Newton said we are “standing on the shoulders of giants,” we understand that recognizing and acknowledging the work of others builds our reputation as partners in scientific endeavors. https://www.americanscientist.org/article/on-the-shoulders-of-giants

Kristen Dean, an MLIS student who is interning at Gunter Library, created this beautiful poster for a class assignment. We are grateful Kristen featured Gunter Library as the subject for her work and are very pleased with the great job she did! We think she deserves an A++ on this assignment!

If you like the challenge of a bridge run, join the fun at the “Gobble Wobble,” the Club’s 11th annual fun run on Sunday, November 22. Upcoming Virtual Science Cafe
"Wind, Wave and Water...
What is a Marsh Bird to do?"
Presenter:
Mark S. Woodrey, Ph.D., Assistant Research Professor/Coastal & Avian Ecologist, Mississippi State University – Coastal Research and Extension Center
Tidal marsh birds live a harsh environment. However, they are clearly adapted to living in marsh environments. We know little beyond infrequent anecdotal observations regarding how marsh birds respond to hurricanes. Given the record year for named tropical cyclones in the Gulf of Mexico, Dr. Woodrey's lab has analyzed historic monitoring data as well as conducted field surveys to determine immediate storm impact on marsh birds.
