Monarch Waystation at GCRL
Have you had a chance to spend a few minutes visiting the new butterfly garden sited on the entry corner to the dormitory? With the installation of this special garden, the GCRL Halstead at East Beach campus becomes part of the USM-Gulf Coast Monarch Waystation project. The flowers are attracting species of butterflies other than our local Monarchs. Other pollinators are visiting the colorful flowers, too.
Thank you to Gulf Park campus architect Jason Cantu and GCRL Physical Plant grounds keeping staff for bringing this Waystation to Ocean Springs.

Let’s Roll!
Gunter Library has bicycles to loan to grad students, interns, visiting researchers, staff, and faculty. If you would like to borrow a bike for a trip between campuses or a journey downtown for lunch or errands, Gunter Library can set you up. We have all you need including bike, helmet, and lock.
Starting July 29, Library hours are 8-5 Monday through Friday , closed 12-1 for lunch.

Abstract submission for the
Gulf Estuarine Research Society (GERS) 2022 Meeting is now open!
The GERS 2022 meeting will be held at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, MS on October 27-29, 2022. Participation is welcomed from scientists, resource managers, and students (both graduate and undergraduate) from across the Gulf of Mexico. Both oral and poster presentations that describe original research conducted in our estuaries are invited, including estuarine, coastal, wetlands, and freshwater ecosystems.
The abstract submission deadline is July 31, 2022.

Attention students! GERS is offering student travel awards!
We are accepting applications for student travel awards to attend the 2022 GERS Meeting. Travel awards of $300 will be offered to students (graduate and undergraduate) to help defray the costs associated with travel and participation in the GERS meeting. See website for eligibility and application information.
Student Travel Award Applications are due July 31, 2022.
To renew your GERS membership, please see the website. Membership dues are $30 per year ($20 per year for students) and can be paid by credit card or PayPal account. Memberships run on a calendar year basis (Jan 1-Dec 31).
We look forward to seeing everyone in Ocean Springs this fall!

Workstation Treadmill available at Gunter Library
Is it just too hot to get those steps outside? Gunter Library has a treadmill workstation you can use to get some exercise in air-conditioned comfort. The treadmill was purchased as part of a grant from Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the Health is Golden Program at the Southern Miss Gulf Park Campus. Similar units are in place at other campus libraries. The workstation, which includes a computer and desk area, is available for everyone, students, staff, and faculty during regular library hours. There are no appointments needed to use the workstation. Gunter Library has an assortment of audio books available to use while you walk, or you can watch videos on the computer.

Gunter Library collecting bears for
North Bay Civitan Club
Gunter Library is hosting a collection box for new and gently used teddy bears the for 13th annual “Bears on Patrol” project sponsored by the North Bay Civitan Club. All the teddy bears are being presented to the Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop K on Saturday, September 10. Bring your teddy bears to Gunter Library by Friday, September 9. Children involved in stressful situations that involve the Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop K are given bears as a comfort support item. This is the fifth year Gunter Library has partnered with the Civitans by hosting a collection box.
