Georgia United Credit Union completed a mini School Crash at
Camp Creek Elementary School, installing a Special Needs Playground and Tiger Paw tracks to the playground and track area. A brief celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony were held on
Aug. 12.

Collins Hill's Kerensa Wing named National Principal of the Year finalist
|
After being named
Georgia Principal of the Year by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals,
Collins Hill High School Principal Kerensa Wing has been named one of three finalists for the national award. Typically, the
National Principal of the Year is announced in
October during National Principals' Month.

and watch that child!

We all play a role in
keeping kids safe as they travel to and from school. Whether on neighborhood drives or multi-lane roadways, drivers should remain vigilant and follow traffic laws to help keep schoolchildren safe... at bus stops, in school parking lots, and on neighborhood roads. The start of the school year is a good time for motorists to remember these
school bus safety tips.

Is there a talented teacher or phenomenal educational leader in your school community who deserves a round of applause? The Teach On Project Awards (formerly the Atlanta Families' Awards for Excellence in Education) will open the nomination period on

2019 Football Media Day on
July 25. Coaches and players representing the school district's high school programs met with media contacts and were treated to a pre-season pep talk from

GCPS seeks exhibitors for Career Connections 2019
|
Planning for a career is a critical decision for young people, and their high school years are the perfect time to explore opportunities and nurture interests that could lead to a career. That's where you come in! GCPS is seeking exhibitors for its annual
Career Connections event, set for
Tues., Oct. 22. This district initiative promotes career awareness for students attending a 9th Grade Academy at one of the district's seven College and Career Academy high schools:
Berkmar, Central Gwinnett, Discovery, Lanier, Meadowcreek, Shiloh, and
South Gwinnett. More than 5,000 Academy students will head to the Infinite Energy Center Exhibit Hall for the event, and
prospective exhibitors are needed. Questions? Contact

2019-20 Student Advisory Council applications due Aug. 31
|
State School Superintendent Richard Woods is seeking middle and high school students to serve on his 2019-20 Student Advisory Council. These students will meet with Superintendent Woods to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom, along with other issues related to education, and will serve as the Superintendent's ambassadors to their respective schools.

Bear's Best Atlanta Golf Course in Suwanee will host the event. The money raised will go t
oward college scholarships, resources, enrichment activities, and background-building experiences for students in the mentoring program.
Registration
for golfers— $125 per individual and $500 per foursome— is open through
Sept. 27,
and
includes tournament entry, breakfast, entry in the Hole-In-One Contest, entry in the Longest Drive Contest, and the Awards Luncheon. Learn more about district’s

The Georgia Department of Education (GA DOE) invites the public to provide feedback on the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Mathematics and English Language Arts. The state hopes to receive feedback from all stakeholders— including educators, parents, students, business and industry, and higher education. The

Fri., Sept. 6 at 5 p.m.
