News & Updates
October 11, 2022
Greetings!

Explore art related to the weekly celebration of The Sabbath or continue to investigate the biblical images made by Marc Chagall with Jewish Art Education in November.

A huge thank you to Bob Barkin for 14 years of wonderful service as our Executive Director! Bob will be stepping back from this role and taking on an "emeritus" status in order to pursue other projects and spend more time with his family.

JAE is pleased to welcome Jenna Millhouse as the newest member of our Speakers Bureau. Jenna lives in Norfolk, Virginia, and is eager to begin presenting to lifelong learners in her area. Welcome, Jenna!

At Jewish Art Education (JAE), we are dedicated to bringing the best in the Jewish visual arts to the widest possible audience. Our mission is to educate the wider world on the contributions of the visual arts to Jewish civilization.

Please let us know if there are additional individuals at your organization to whom this newsletter should be sent and feel free to forward it to others who might be interested in our programs. We look forward to presenting to your audience.

Art of The Sabbath

THE ART OF THE SABBATH identifies the Biblical citation that determines the Sabbath and surveys the many customs developed to observe it. Through prints to paintings, photographs, greeting cards, and ritual objects (Sabbath lamps, candlesticks, kiddush cups, tablecloths) of many different media, we are charged to remember and guard the Sabbath in different times and places.
SAMSON AND DELILAH
Marc Chagall, 1931
Marc Chagall's Biblical Images:
Elijah’s Vision (To King David)

This program continues the series of etchings that Chagall created based on Biblical stories. He worked on this series from 1931 to 1956. This presentation begins with Joshua and includes Samson, Saul, and King David. Chagall used varied etching techniques to capture multiple textures.

This is the 2nd program in a 3-part series. Each part of the series may also be enjoyed as a single presentation.
Synagogues, JCCs, Hillels
Celebrate the Fall Holidays with a FREE Program
Only 2 free one-hour programs remain available (one program per organization) via Zoom or in-person for synagogues, JCCs, and Hillels across the US through the generosity of an anonymous donor.

As the free programs are limited, they will be booked on a first-come, first-served basis.

Here are some program suggestions:

November - Art of The Sabbath
December - The Art of Hanukah

From Our Audience
The Art of Roy Lichtenstein
(Series)

Amazing!

I never knew anything about Lichtenstein. Thank you so much.
The Art of The High Holidays

We love your programs and always look forward to them. I am Catholic and have learned so much from them.

I had actually never seen many of these art objects and I was an art teacher for many years.

That was by far the best presentation you have given.

Barnett Newman's "The Name I" looks like a tallis.
Jewish Women Artists

Lisette Model was a friend of my grandmother's!

Thank you for the presentation. It was fascinating. I had no idea there were so many female Jewish artists.
