SAVANNAH AFRICAN ART MUSEUM PARTICIPATES IN GEORGIA HISTORY FESTIVAL’S SUPER MUSEUM SUNDAY

The Savannah African Art Museum participated in the Georgia History Festival’s Super Museum Sunday once again on February 5, 2023. The museum offered free self-guided tours around the museum with docents stationed at various points to answer questions and provide information as needed.

HISTORIC SAVANNAH FOUNDATION HOSTED A TOUR OF THE RALPH MARK GILBERT CIVIL RIGHTS MUSEUM IN THE "PEOPLE, PLACES AND STORIES" LECTURE SERIES

Historic Savannah Foundation (HSF) partnered with the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum for the February installment in their “People, Places and Stories that Define Savannah” lecture series on Thursday, February 16.

FAMILY PROMISE ANNOUNCED “WORKSHOP WEDNESDAYS” COMMUNITY INITIATIVE

Family Promise of the Coastal Empire launched its new community initiative “Workshop Wednesdays,” consisting of free and open-to-the-public informative workshops held throughout the year. The first event featured Dr. Bonzo Reddick, District Health Director and former physician at J.C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center, on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

THE OUTSIDE FOUNDATION HOSTS LFPR AND LOCAL MEDIA AT THEIR ANNUAL OYSTER ROAST FUNDRAISER

LFPR and local media attended The Outside Foundation's annual Oyster Roast Fundraiser at Page Island on Feb. 26. This annual fundraiser raises money for their Kids in Kayaks program.

What's Happening This Month?

FAMILY PROMISE LAUNCHES FUNDRAISING “HOOPS FOR HOUSING” RAFFLE FOR MARCH MADNESS

Throughout the month of March, Family Promise of the Coastal Empire is introducing a new fundraiser, “Hoops for Housing,” with a March-madness-themed raffle. Daily raffle drawings with a vast variety of enticing prizes will allow participants many chances to win, all leading up to the grand drawing on March 31 – with a cash prize of $10,000. Family Promise will announce the winner, who will be contacted to ensure they receive their prizes, each day on its website and social media platforms.

HSF’S “PEOPLE, PLACES AND STORIES” LECTURE SERIES WELCOMES ARDIS WOOD - MARCH 23

Historic Savannah Foundation (HSF) will host Ardis Wood as the next presenter in their “People, Places and Stories that Define Savannah” lecture series. Wood's presentation will cover her work with Scenic America, the only national nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing the visual character of America. The lecture is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 23.

DAVENPORT HOUSE MUSEUM TO HOST 'TEA AT THE DAVENPORTS'

Tea at the Davenports’ will take place Wednesdays and Thursdays, March 1-2, 8-9, 15-16, 22-23, and 29-30. The program begins at 5 p.m. and lasts 75 minutes. Guests will learn about tea traditions and experience early 19th century tea in the historic atmosphere of the Davenport House Museum. Weather permitting, tea will be served in the Museum’s Garden. On inclement weather dates, tea will be taken inside the house museum in a delightful interior room. Costumed interpreters will join guests for refreshments and conversation.

MARY’S PLACE: SEXUAL ASSAULT CENTER OF THE COASTAL EMPIRE, INC. TO HOST INAUGURAL “FIND YOUR VOICE” GALA AND LIP SYNC COMPETITION - APRIL 7

Mary’s Place: Sexual Assault Center of the Coastal Empire, Inc., formerly known as the Rape Crisis Center, is slated to host their annual fundraising gala at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 7 at Victory North, located at 2603 Whitaker Street in Savannah. This year’s gala will be like no other as the nonprofit organization introduces the inaugural “Find Your Voice” Lip Sync Competition, where teams will compete for a chance to win in a variety of categories.

MARY'S PLACE TEAL H.E.A.L. WALK - April 13

Men! Grab your most comfortable heels and meet at the Tybee Island Memorial Park Pavilion on Thursday, April 13th at 6:00 pm! The Teal H.E.A.L. (Help End Assault with Love) Walk distinctively allows Mary's Place to inspire support from men to join the effort to end sexual violence to all survivors we serve and bring awareness of the struggles they face. Participants can register for $25 and are encouraged to raise additional funds from family, friends, and colleagues or form a team! Participants walk in high-heel shoes - symbolizing the steps survivors take toward healing. Ladies, you can participate too, by providing support to men on their journey. A Teal H.E.A.L. award will be presented to the group and individuals with the most funds raised.

SAVANNAH CHALLENGER - A USTA PRO CIRCUIT EVENT

The Savannah Challenger is the premiere professional tennis event in south Georgia. This United States Tennis Association (USTA) ATP tournament is part of the worldwide Challenger series, a Pro Circuit event which brings some of the world’s finest tennis players to our city. Past contestants include Daniel Medvedev, Denis Shapavolov, Nick Kyrgios, Kei Nishikori, Jack Sock and Ryan Harrison to name a few!
