A Note from Pastor David - The Bones of Joseph
It is a minor part of the Exodus story. One might miss it unless one looks very carefully. We see Moses, the midst of both preparing for, and also leading, the exodus of his people out of Egypt. Yet Moses finds time to add one more thing to what must have been one of biblical history’s most significant to do lists. He remembers to pick up the bones of Joseph and take them with the people on their journey (Exodus 13:19). Four hundred years earlier Joseph had made his brothers promise to take his bones to the Promised Land when the time came for God to lead the people out of Egypt. Moses keeps a 400 year old promise which he did not even personally make. And he does so in the chaotic aftermath of the Passover evening. Amazing!

This reminds me of our intimate connection to the ones who have gone before us. Like Joseph  they find their promises and hopes fulfilled in the actions of those of us who come after them. Even more importantly, it encourages me to remember that it does not necessarily honor the past to live in the past. Going to the Promised Land by escaping Egypt was the best way to honor the great leadership which Joesph had exercised in Egypt. This is also noteworthy because we are in a time not unlike the time Moses’s people experienced on the evening of the Exodus. Things are chaotic. Much of what we have done, we can no longer do in the same way during this pandemic. However, we have a chance to do traditional things in a new way such as worship, Bible study and even fellowship. You will see that in this newsletter. I hope you will also read how we are continuing our Food Pantry work in a new way through a new partnership.

Remember as you read this newsletter that what we may change is not out of a lack of respect for things we have done and the ways in which we have done them in the past. But rather these are efforts to fulfill the hopes and promises which gave rise to those original things. And we try to keep those promises in this new day and strange land.

Due to social distancing guidelines in place through the summer, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our usual summer ministries such as Vacation Bible School, Drama Camp, and Movies with a Message. We still hope to provide fun resources for children and families to grow in their faith this summer. Stay tuned for fun at-home and virtual alternative programming! Knight of North Castle VBS will come Summer 2021!
Social Distancing may be requiring us to worship online, but not even a pandemic can stop us from recognizing our awesome Senior class of 2020! Seniors will be recognized and celebrated in worship on Sunday, May 17, at both of our live-streamed services - the Traditional service at 8:30 and the Praise service at 11:00 a.m.

We will be reaching out to senior families directly, but if you do not hear from us and you want your senior recognized, please contact Mike ( Mike@ManchacaUMC.org) or Kim ( Kim@ManchacaUMC.org).
Manchaca UMC Food Pantry
The Food Pantry has been idle since our Chuch closed. However, our pantry made a bulk donation to Marbridge to help them feed their staff and workers. We've always felt the need to feed people, but how? Recently we learned that Manchaca Baptist Church had opened a pantry when Covid-19 started. Pam and I went and visited it Monday. After seeing what a good job they were doing, we decided to donate most of our food to them. They are open M & W from 9:30-11:30. Plus they deliver food to peoples homes. They first contacted Menchaca Elementary School and True Care Preg Center to offer help. Slowly they have expanded. Manchaca Baptist Pantry loves HEB gift cards, if you feel called to give. Also they may need delivery drivers later this month (you must wear a mask and gloves--ring the doorbell but don't go in the house--just leave the food with the family). They put a hand written note in every bag, for all you writers. If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact me and I will put you in touch with Tanner. May you be safe during this crazy time. Prayers for you and our world!

Are you feeling depleted, disappointed, dissatisfied, and disconnected? Are you tired of being lonely and left out at work, home, church, and online? Are you hungry for true community, deeper connection with God, and friendships that are greater than just "likes" on social media? Come and discover true community! In this four-week study, author Amberly Neese provides Biblical and practical help for cultivating meaningful relationships that glorify God through an exploration of four "one another" sayings in the New Testament: Love one another, Serve one another, Build up and strengthen one another, and forgive one another. Each week, we will watch a video together and engage in meaningful conversations that will encourage and equip us to pursue deeper relationships and true belonging! Please email  Kim@ManchacaUMC.org to sign up!
