February 2020 Newsletter
"Blessed by the Light"
Matthew 5:1-12
Sunday, February 2, 2020
10:30 AM (Blended Service)

We are your children. You bless us always. Your light shines upon us when we are poor in spirit, when we mourn, when we are meek and when we are hungry and thirst for righteousness.

Join us in celebration of the many blessings in our lives and for the presence of Christ's spirit in the world. We will celebrate and remember through Holy Communion this Sunday.

See you at Morningside!  ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Standing Together to #ResistHarm
#ResistHarm is a movement of faithful resistance to the anti-LGBTQ Traditional Plan adopted last year by the United Methodist Church’s General Conference.

Showing our support of the #ResistHarm movement in the month of February, we invite everyone to bring in a photo that celebrates your loving relationship with someone you hold dear. Your photo can be current, of you with someone who has passed or of you and an important person in your past.

We'll feature the photos on our #ResistHarm bulletin board and celebrate those relationships during a special reflection during worship this month. Loving relationships are special and unique to each and every couple. The common link is, of course, love... ❤️

“Beloved, let us love one another because love is from God: everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love God does not know God, for God is love.”
1 JOHN 4:7-8 (NRSV)

Annual Youth Group Dinner & Auction Fundraiser
Saturday, February 22nd, 5 PM
First UMC - Micah Building
Tickets are being sold online this year and are now available to order. An Auction Volunteer will also be available after worship on Sunday to help with ticket orders, if you need help.

We are still looking for donations, too. Providing an experience, teaching a skill, or offering a service are wonderful donations.  Forms are available on the Auction Bulletin Board in the main hallway. Donation forms are due by February 9th or you can register your donations on the auction website.

Finally, Morningside still needs 3 more people to supply lasagna for the auction dinner. There is a sign-up sheet on the Auction Bulletin Board. You will be contacted with the recipe info. If you’d prefer to prepare a gluten-free or vegetarian version, just indicate that on the sign-up form.

CLICK HERE to purchase your tickets online or register your auction donation.
PARENTS NIGHT OUT
Friday, February 14th @ 6 PM
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Offering our Morningside neighbors a safe and fun place to drop-off their kids, giving parents a well-deserved night out is what Parents Night Out is all about. Our next PNO is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 14th.

To make that happen, though, we REALLY need volunteers to help out. If you can spare one evening a month and enjoy working with kids, we could use your help!

We need people to:
  • Check in and register kids
  • Help in the nursery with the little ones
  • Work in the kitchen preparing and serving food
  • Organizing and leading games and activities

If you are able to help out, sign up on the Wall of Helping Hands in the main hallway or call the office.
Lunch Share Program - UPDATE
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Nearly 50 nutritious bag lunches per week are donated to the Union Gospel Mission to help feed homeless and hungry people through this program. We had another successful month in January, thanks to Jan & Renee, and Eva & Alex.

Looking forward to February, we still need a volunteer to pick up lunches at the church and deliver them to UGM on Saturdays. It's quick and easy and is so appreciated by the folks who receive them!

Sign up on the Wall of Helping Hands in the main hallway.
Open Door Churches/ Morningside’s Solar Project
Phase 2 — UPDATE
Congratulations to all you members of Morningside who have helped us come closer to meeting our ODC’s goal of $100,000 needed to make the Solar Panel Project actually happen this spring.
As of January 30th ODC have raised the following amount towards our goal:

Funds received:                 $ 65,814
Additional Funds Pledged: $ 14,220
Total                                   $ 80,034

We’ve reached 80% of our target at this point. We are on the last leg of making this happen, so if you have not yet made a donation or a pledge, please do so as soon as possible so the solar panels can be ordered and the contracts signed.

Youth can sign up for camps at www.gocamping.org. For any youth needing financial assistance we have a scholarship program to help. Let Jeff or Brenda Bateman know if you need a scholarship application.

For more details about youth group activities  visit their Facebook page here.
Open Door Churches Young Adults February Schedule
In January, the Open Door Church Young Adult Group took time to reflect on 2019 and look forward to 2020. Together we shared our favorite moments of Young Adult Group in 2019 and talked about what we would like to do in 2020.

We are looking forward to more faith discussions and time of fellowship with one another. This year we will continue to meet on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9.

Please contact Pastor Alyssa ([email protected]) or see our social media pages for times and places. Thank you for your continued support of the Open Door Church Young Adults.
