#NHSD Weekly eNews

Volume 15 | December 19, 2023

We'll have a double dose of our eNews coming to you this week. To start off, we share student art projects, acts of kindness to help those in need, fun scenes from across our schools, and an update from Lions Athletics. Have a great week!

Art Reflections for the Season

Our student artists are creating thoughtful artwork reflecting the season. Above, Mrs. Ferber's middle school students created snowman art inspired by famous artists, including Vincent van Gogh, Jackson Pollock, Salvador Dalí, and Andy Warhol. For the high school's annual holiday hallway decorating contest, students in Mrs. Rosenburg's Buddy Crafts class, which pairs students with special needs and their regular education peers, created a life-size gingerbread experience. This video takes you through it and has surpassed 3 Million views on TikTok!

NHSD Giving Back

Our New Hope-Solebury students are making a difference this holiday season. The High School Key Club continued its partnership with Adopt a Wishlist and Fisherman's Mark, and through this tremendous community project, 338 holiday wishlists were fulfilled for local children and seniors in need. We deeply appreciate the students, families, community members and organizations that came together to support this invaluable program. Key Club students also initiated a sock drive in partnership with ME Salon in New Hope. The collection will be donated to the Grace Project, a non-profit bringing hope through acts of kindness to children and adults impacted by sickness, poverty, or addiction. The hundreds of socks collected will be transported to those in need in Kensington by the Central Bucks Rotary. Junior Ben Stein was recognized by the Miracle League of Northampton Township, which offers athletic programs and inclusive facilities to the special needs community. Ben busked his trumpet in the New Hope area to raise money for the Miracle League and raised just over $1,000 for the organization. "We commend Ben for his kindness, efforts to collect this money and make this donation! What an inspiration - he shared his talents of playing his trumpet with others, on his own time, and people were happy to support his collection for Miracle League," shared Mary Camp, Executive Board Member & Volunteer Coordinator for the Miracle League. More School Scenes

Last week, our Littlest Lions enjoyed their chance to visit the school holiday shop and to purchase thoughtful gifts fro their family and friends. The Home and School Association wishes to recognize their Vice President, Susanne Hoffman, who works all year planning, preparing and shopping for this event.

Our Upper Elementary School music ensembles had their first opportunity to perform in the High School Buck Theater last week. Their audience greatly enjoyed their performance of holiday tunes to celebrate the season.

High school students interested in our Business and Communications Career Pathway listened to a presentation with Jay Sidhu, the CEO and Chairman of Customers Bank. Mr. Sidhu has been the CEO of two highly successful publicly traded banks and is committed to mentoring young people all over the world. During his presentation, he shared advice and his secrets to success with our students. In the STEAM wing, high school students have been preparing for a special workshop they will host for the Littlest Lions. The students utilized the manufacturing lab equipment to prepare over 1,000 individual pieces that our first graders will use in their own builds this week.

Lions Athletics

Three of our Lions Wrestling student-athletes placed in the Springside Chestnut Hill Academy Invitational. Donovan Leone earned 2nd Place at 138lbs, Quinn Bridge earned 2nd Place at 150lbs, Colin Foster earned 4th Place at 175lbs.

Congratulations to our NHS Unified Bocce team for winning both of their matches against Pennridge High School last week. Today is the last day to order their gear here.

These New Hope-Solebury student-athletes recently attended an athletes leadership conference held at Souderton High School. Schools from all over the Greater Philadelphia area sent their Student Athlete Leadership Teams to participate in the event, a first of its kind. A keynote speaker from Bucknell University's men's basketball program spoke about the importance of strong leadership and positive energy from student-athletes. The students also participated in breakout sessions focused on team leadership skills.
