New Hope-Solebury School District

Engaging, Enriching, and Empowering All Students through a World-Class Education

#NHSD Weekly eNews

Volume 4 | September 23, 2022

We have exciting student accomplishments and capstones, a Board of School Directors meeting recap, examples of collaboration in the classroom, and plenty of community happenings to share below.

Our Summer Math and Reading Challenges

Over the summer, elementary students were encouraged to continue their progress in reading and math with our Summer Reading and Math Challenges. To participate, students were asked to keep logs of time spent reading and any math practice at home, such as measuring or cooking with fractions. An astounding 180 logs were completed!

Each student received a special certificate, a district bookmark (special thanks to our local UPS store for printing them!), and a coupon courtesy of the Lahaska Bookshop and JaZams in Peddlers Village.

National Merit Honors

We are delighted to announce that five NHS seniors received National Merit recognition this year. Students Adrian Li and Nate Wiseman are among the 16,000 students nationally to be selected as National Merit Semi-Finalists. Adrian and Nate earned this by scoring in the top 1% of US high school students on their PSAT exams. Students James Connolly, Ava Marrone, and Samuel Hoffman are among approximately 34,000 students commended by National Merit for outstanding academic promise.

Portrait of a Graduate: Learning to Collaborate

Our #LittlestLions created artwork to reflect their school values and the importance of working together no matter where they are in their building—from the classroom to the cafeteria.

The flexible seating in our classrooms enables students to collaborate in a comfortable environment. Fourth grade teacher Dr. Demore shared that, "Students are more engaged, which allows them to develop inter-personal skills and grow as learners."

Middle School students worked together to address a Kid Catastrophe in Mrs. Hamill's science classroom. Together, they observed a scenario to identify the lab safety errors made by a careless student!

Students in Mrs. Rosenburg's art class worked collaboratively to create this psychedelic art display inspired by the work of artist Jen Stark.

Celebrating Senior Athletes

Congratulations to our Girls Tennis Seniors, who celebrated their senior day this week:

Alexandra Scott, Elizabeth Allen, Abigail Prosser, Kirsten Marcelo, and Emily Wilkinson
