#NHSD Weekly eNews

Volume 23 | February 16, 2024

This week, we are sharing highlights from our music students' trip abroad, celebrations of Black History Month, lessons in artificial intelligence, exciting accomplishments, and upcoming competitions for Lions Athletics.

A Musical Journey in Europe

Our Music Department is taking a classical journey through Europe, visiting the birthplace of Mozart in Salzburg, Austria and performing some classical masterpieces in the Votive Church in Vienna. The students have also participated in masterclasses with guest conductors to enhance their performance practice.

Recognizing Black History Month

Our students are celebrating Black History Month with visual displays in our buildings. Above, Mrs. Ferber's art students are learning to use Canva while designing Black History Month posters that are on display throughout the Middle School. Her news crew team is also sharing a Black History fact or quote on their broadcast each morning. At the Upper Elementary, all classes created this visual display celebrating the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

School Scenes

To prepare future-ready students, our district continues to explore how artificial intelligence can be used responsibly and effectively in the classroom. This week, Ms. Nichols' students leveraged artificial intelligence to create "new" ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses in their social studies classes. AI prompts and varying details were used to develop unique myths about the creations. The lesson introduced students to AI in an age-appropriate way, enabled them to experiment with prompts, and gave them the chance to observe how each new prompt impacts the final result.

There have been many special deliveries this week! For Valentine's Day, our #LittlestLions sorted and delivered their valentines to their classroom friends. At the High School, our Buddy Crafts class, which pairs students with disabilities and their regular education peers, delivered their handmade candles to staff throughout the campus who purchased them.

NHSD Accomplishments

Our Director of Education, Dr. Amanda Benolken, graduated from the Association of School Superintendents (AASA) Aspiring Superintendents Academy for Female Leaders. This year-long program recruits rising female leaders from across the nation for workshops and conferences aimed to develop transformational leaders who will lead student-centered, future-driven schools with creativity, vision, and a commitment to the whole learner.

Earlier this year, our students had the opportunity to participate in a Career Pathways lunch and learn with Morgan Grabarz (NHS Class of 2018) who shared her experiences pursuing a career in fashion and launching her own fashion line. See this feature in the Bucks County Herald showcasing Morgan and her upcoming appearance in New York Fashion Week!

Lions Athletics

Our Lions Unified Bocce is the #1 seed in Bucks County and will play in the Bucks County Championship on Wednesday, February 28 at Pennridge HS.

Lions Girls Basketball is the #2 seed in the District 1 3A Tournament. For their first post-season game, the team will host Morrisville HS on Tuesday, February 20.
