It has been a jam-packed week at NHSD, with a pep rally, Read Across America preparations, inclusive art projects, VEX competitions, the high school's record-breaking Spirit Week, and a series of community-building programs. See our report below and be sure to join us on campus for our upcoming Cultural Heritage Night and for Mask and Zany's highly-anticipated production of Footloose.
Our Littlest Lions had a fun-filled week starting with their LES Pep Rally. The Pep Rally, featuring the LES Lions Cheerleading Squad and a cameo from our Lion, was used to revisit the school's core values, be respectful, be responsible, and be safe. The students joined together to celebrate their school community and the important role they play within it. The LES students also geared up for Read Across America with a visit from their Middle School peers. Nearly 30 students from the Middle School visited the LES to share stories and conversation and to further inspire our Littlest Lions' love for reading.
We continue to find ways to celebrate inclusion through artistic endeavors. At the UES, students began working on their kaleidoscope project with Mikayla's Voice, a non-profit committed to fostering inclusion for students with disabilities. The students are collaborating on a mural design integrating the tire marks of a wheelchair, symbolizing an activity where all can participate. We are also preparing for Autism Acceptance month in April with a special t-shirt design contest. The winners, students Matilde Jaquess and Tripp Spencer, will have their artwork featured on t-shirts available for purchase now through March 8. We invite our entire school community to purchase a shirt and join us in wearing them next month to show support for the autistic community and to celebrate our differences.
Four Middle School VEX Robotics teams have now qualified for the State Finals, which will be held this Sunday, March 3. Team 18938D, including students Zach Bellomo, Bryce Dudick, Harrison Janelli, and Brant Livezey, was given the Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes a high degree of good sportsmanship, helpfulness, respect, and a positive attitude both on and off the competition field.
It has been a fantastic Hunger Games-inspired Spirit Week for the High School, including minute-to-win-it games, Family Feud, volleyball tournaments, dance competitions, hallway decorating and more. The students have shown incredible sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and dedication in their efforts to earn points for their teams, and it shows in their record-breaking results. The students raised $500 in bracelet sales for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, collected a record-setting 25,352lbs in canned goods for the Bucks County Opportunity Council's Operation Helping Hand, and raised $9,909 in coins for the Children's Miracle Network--another school record. Congratulations to our winners this year, the BLUE team, and to all of the students for an amazing demonstration of school spirit.

The History of Antisemitism with the ADL
Our district, in partnership with the Anti-Defamation League Philadelphia and Kehilat HaNahar, hosted a program, The History of Antisemitism. The featured speaker, Dr. Andrew Goretsky, Regional Director of the ADL, offered perspective on the current rise of antisemitism nationally and globally, the use of social media and traditional media to misrepresent and disparage the Jewish community, the history of antisemitism and its ties to historical events, and the actions we can take to effectively respond to acts of antisemitism. Dr. Goretsky also presented the ADL's ongoing efforts to address all types of discrimination, not just antisemitic activities. The program was exceptionally well-attended, and we thank our school community for their support.

The NHS Community Network
The New Hope-Solebury Community Network provides a forum for local non-profit organizations to gather for the exchange of information and resources and to explore opportunities for collaboration with our schools. This week, the group met with Shannon Sticker, Deputy Chief of Staff for State Senator Steve Santarsiero. Ms. Sticker shared insights into the State's budget process and offered an opportunity for our community organizations to advocate for their budget priorities. If your organization would like to consider joining our Community Network, please contact Stephanie Yoder, Community Relations, at syoder@nhsd.org.

Building Bridges through ESL
As part of our new adult school program, Lions Community School, we are offering a new course called Building Bridges through ESL, which kicked-off this week. Instructed by NHS faculty members, Maria Bennett and Maria Tzemintimpi, the class offers lessons in English-language proficiency and assistance in navigating school platforms and communications for parents and guardians who are non-native speakers. We appreciate support from the NHS Education Fund in making this class possible and the opportunity to build new bridges in our school community.
