We hosted several exciting events this week, including our first induction of the New Hope-Solebury Athletic Hall of Fame, a Great Gatsby-inspired prom, and a Get to Know You Day for incoming kindergartners. We also have many school scenes to share this week, an athletic update from Track and Field, and an opportunity to recognize an NHSD STAR while also supporting the NHS Education Fund. More below.
NHS Inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame
We inducted the inaugural class of New Hope-Solebury's Pop-Pop Heath Athletic Hall of Fame during a reception at Holly Hedge Estate this week. Those representing New Hope-Solebury's rich history in athletics were given the chance to reconnect and to gather in celebration of our inductees: Chad Hopenwasser ('95) Boys Basketball Athlete; Alyssa (Isler) Daley ('10) Girls Basketball Athlete; Stephen Muzekari ('81) Boys Soccer Athlete; Brenda Scheffey ('81) Girls Basketball Athlete; Rick Fedele Boys Basketball Coach 2002-2020; Gwen Smith Field Hockey Coach 2009-present; Boys Soccer Team 2010; and Pop-Pop Heath Contributor for 40 Years.
Our juniors and seniors enjoyed a Gatsby-inspired evening at the Fuge in Warminster for their annual prom. Special thank you to the junior class officers and their advisors, Mr. Bachart and Ms. Rudesyle, for organizing this special evening.
Getting to Know our Incoming Class of Littlest Lions
The Lower Elementary School hosted a special Get to Know You Day for our incoming class of kindergartners. The NHSD team was excited to learn more about their future students by coloring and playing games with them. The students also had a chance to explore their soon-to-be school building. We can't wait to welcome them to NHSD in the fall!
On May 26, members of the HS Student Equity Committee traveled to William Tennent High School to engage in a Student Empowerment Day. Our students had the opportunity to meet and collaborate on various topics in the realm of equity and identity. NHS students shared their experiences with No Place for Hate while also learning about the projects and initiatives taking place at William Tennent. It was a great day that left everyone feeling inspired, connected, and hopeful for further work in equity and interested to seek more opportunities for collaboration in the future. | | Members of our HS Key Club recently teamed up with Central Bucks Rotary to support the 10th Annual Feed My Starving Children MobilePack event at Delaware Valley University. Their cohort participated on May 21 and helped to pack nearly 3,000 meals. Through the collective efforts of all the event volunteers over three days, approximately 290,000 meals with life-sustaining nutrition were packed to feed 795 individuals for an entire year! | Mikayla's Voice is a non-profit organization promoting inclusion for those with disabilities. In partnership with HS art teacher Mrs. Rosenburg, they helped to facilitate an art mural visually depicting a Wheel of Friendship. A recent assembly program unveiled the art project and encouraged our high school students to consider how they can be mentors and leaders in our efforts to create an inclusive learning environment at NHSD.
Our Middle School Choir traveled today to perform in the Music in the Parks Festival and competition at Lebanon Valley College. Following the performance, this group of approximately 80 students traveled to Hershey Park for a picnic and awards ceremony. JUST IN! Our choir earned THIRD PLACE in the competition! | Our Middle School enjoyed their own Field Day events this year, a day filled with volleyball, dodgeball, capture the flag, chess, "Minute to Win It" games, and relays in the gym. It was a fun and uplifting way to celebrate the students' hard work and progress this year. Special thanks to Julia Bollinger, Sally Diakon, and Chris Shank for their efforts to organize the event. | Fifth grader Albert Skrygulec was our district's top scorer for the Math Olympiad competition. He earned a certificate for participation, a patch for being in the top 50%, a silver pin for being in the top 3-10%, and a trophy for being our top scorer!
Our Lions Track and Field team had a great performance in the PIAA State Championships at Shippensburg University last weekend. Senior Marco DeMeo placed 11th in the high jump and 13th in the long jump. Senior Aidan Ferraez placed 27th in the 800m. Sophomore Naava Richlin placed 11th in the 800m with a time of 2:20.9, just .3 off of our school record. Our Girls 4x800m relay team, including Nora Eneva, Ruby Keddie, Nina Meixler and Skylar High, placed 21st. Congratulations to our Lions Track and Field athletes and to coaches Dana McCafferty and Daniel Schlussel!
