Students Earn 3rd Place at the BCIU STEM Challenge

Today, three teams from our Upper Elementary School participated in the 2023 BCIU STEM Design Competition. The competition challenged students to identify an environmental problem and to help solve it. Over 170 elementary teams entered and only 17 teams were selected as Semi Finalists, with our three NHSD teams among them. At the conclusion of today's presentation, a team of fourth graders, including Madeline Gabrielson, EJ Bernard and Camilla Povilaitis earned third place! Their team created the RSC- Robotic Space Cleaner, a vehicle serving the purpose of keeping space clean! Congratulations to all of the participants and to their teacher Mrs. Sutton.

National Merit Finalists

HS Principal Mr. Sasse and Superintendent Dr. Lentz had the opportunity to recognize seniors Adrian Li and Nathaniel Wiseman, who were recently named National Merit Finalists. Both students scored among the top one percent of U.S. high school seniors on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) to qualify as semi-finalists. They then demonstrated the academic record and experience to earn the prestigious designation of National Merit Finalists.

Career Ready with Mock Interviews

To support college and career readiness, high school juniors participated in a Mock Interview Day this week. Students brought their resumes and were interviewed by professionals representing business or post-secondary education. Following the interviews, students received valuable feedback on their strengths as well as areas of growth for future job, college, scholarship, and internship interviews. We appreciate the expertise and time of our interviewers. Explore the ways you can support our college and career readiness initiative here.

Creativity in our Classrooms

Mrs. Gale’s second graders used Geo Boards for creative fun while learning about polygons: triangles, quadrilaterals, and pentagons.

Mr. Pfancook's academic physics class were challenged to engineer rollercoasters that could carry a marble using conservation of energy concepts and limited accessible materials.

Community Programs with NHSD Connections

Fortepianist Daniel Adam Maltz Performing in Buck Theater on April 16

The New Hope Historical Society presents a rare concert opportunity featuring accomplished fortepianist Daniel Adam Maltz on Sunday, April 16 at 3PM in the Buck Theater. Maltz is based in Vienna and studied Historical Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at Vienna’s University for Music and Performing Arts. He performs on historic Viennese fortepianos, utilizing the vast range of tones, colors, and techniques familiar to Classical-era composers. We are delighted to share that Mr. Maltz will also present a Career in Arts Presentation for NHSD high school students. Interested students should contact Mrs. Reeder, College and Career Counselor, at [email protected] to participate.
