Engaging, Enriching, and Empowering All Students through a World-Class Education

#NHSSD Weekly eNews

Volume 36 | June 14, 2022

It was a joy to close the school year with a series of traditions, some old and some new, to mark new beginnings for our students. We thank the community for taking part in the celebrations and wish you all a restful and happy summer.

Ceremonious New Beginnings

Our Littlest Lions gathered together for an LES end-of-year sing-a-long led by Mrs. Bloom and Mrs. VanPraag. The children sang and clapped to one of their favorite tunes of the year, "Rattlin Bog," and sang "This Land is Your Land" in a conversation about what connects us all. As a farewell tribute to the second graders and to the LES retirees, Mrs. Lang, Mrs. Rader, and Mr. Tai, they closed with "You've Got a Friend."

Our 5th graders were surrounded by family and friends to celebrate their promotion and the next step in their educational journey. Fond memories were shared by student speaker Ciara Forsstrom, who explained that when she moves up to the Middle School, "One thing I will not leave behind are the memories I've made along the way. Magical memories like the excitement you feel getting off the bus at a field trip, signing t-shirts at field day, meeting new friends, seeing your classroom on the first day of school, and much more."

Our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony recognized several student achievements, the service of the MS Student Council, and included a performance from our 8th grade instrumentalists. Student Council president Kayla Fennell reflected on the pride of this moment in her speech, sharing, "I’m so proud of our class—our resiliency, our perseverance, our desire to be kind and generous and give back. We live in an idyllic setting, and we attend the best schools, but we also live our lives with the understanding that to whom much is given, much is required." We expect great things from our incoming freshmen class next year!

In a historic moment, the Class of 2022 Commencement was held for the first time on our new turf! Throughout the ceremony both the students and administrators who shared reflections acknowledged common characteristics among this group of seniors—their resilience, their boldness, their altruism, and their positivity. We expect these traits will serve them well as they move beyond our beautiful "bubble" and onto their next destination. As senior class president Amy Tao challenged them using the words of Minor Myers, Jr., "Go out into the world and do well. More importantly, go out into the world and do good."

Celebrating the Class of 2022

From a community car parade led by local first responders to a "clap-out" of cheers from students and teachers K-8, we had an amazing week showing the Class of 2022 the great pride our community holds for them and their accomplishments.

Points of Pride

Senior Awards Night

On Wednesday, June 8, we presented a roster of prestigious scholarships and awards to members of the Class of 2022. The scholarships reflect an investment in our students by numerous local organizations and by dedicated individuals in our community. We express our sincere gratitude to those who make these scholarship grants possible. Seniors were also recognized with Lion's Pride Awards to distinguish students who excelled in a particular area of study.

Senior Award Winners

Hall of Fame Induction

During our Senior Awards Night, we inducted three new members into the New Hope-Solebury Hall of Fame: Robert Carr, Laurence Fieber and Angela Nino. We were delighted to share their many contributions to the school community and look forward to permanently displaying their honorary plaques in the Buck Theater Lobby.
