American Education Week was established to celebrate public schools and to honor the individuals working to ensure that every student receives a quality education. From our support staff to our teachers in the classroom, tokens of appreciation were extended to our entire NHSSD team this week.

Lion mugs and hot cocoa were a special treat for all support staff. Student Justin Tealer helps deliver a gift to Ann Titano in the District Office.

Principal Mr. Brosius brought refreshments and stone hearts to the UES teachers, reflecting that a love for teaching is what drives their work.

LES staff enjoyed a luncheon courtesy of a group of families wishing to express their thanks to those who support and educate our #LittlestLions.

School Board - Meeting Recap

Health and Safety Plan - The Board approved an amendment to the District's Health and Safety Plan which will enable outside organizations, such as youth sports teams, to reserve and utilize District facilities.

Equity Audit - The School Board approved a contract with EJ Associates to conduct a review of equitable practices within the District's curricula and policies. The District has received external grant-funding to cover the costs of the audit. More details about the scope and extent of the equity audit are forthcoming.

Calendars - The Board approved the District's 2022-2023 School Calendar and the 2022 Board and Board Advisory Committee meeting dates.

STEAM Initiative - Dr. Ordover reported about a presentation from our District's new K-12 STEAM Coordinator, Mr. Richard Curtis, during the recent Curriculum Advisory Committee meeting. Mr. Curtis provided an overview of STEAM course rosters in neighboring districts to indicate points of strength and opportunities for growth within our District. Recognizing the potential to expand our high school course offerings, Mr. Curtis presented a bold vision for the program moving forward. Click below to view the full presentation.

EITC - In connection with the STEAM initiative, the Board discussed opportunities to bring external resources into the District for educational improvements. The Earned Income Tax Credit program provides businesses with tax credits when they make charitable contributions to qualified educational improvement organizations. The NHS Education Fund recently received this designation and is eligible to accept EITC contributions. If you are interested to provide support, ask your employer if they participate in the EITC program and contact [email protected] for more information.
