POAH opens award-winning mixed-income development in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston
Flat 9 at Whittier,winner of the 2020 Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award in the HUD Housing Preservation Category,opened the first of three phases of the redevelopment of the former Whittier Street public housing which was built in the early 1950s. Named for the distinctive jazz chord that evokes Roxbury's rich musical history, Flat 9 at Whittier will provide 316 mixed-income homes on the site and 472 for the total project plus 9,000 sf of commercial space.
POAH and Detroit partners begin construction on mixed-use development in Midtown
POAH and the City of Detroit’s Housing and Revitalization Department and Develop Detroit broke ground on a new mixed-use and mixed-income development in Midtown Detroit’s Sugar Hill Arts District. The project will create 68 apartments, 11,900 square feet of retail space and 164 parking spaces for use by residents and the public in the popular Midtown entertainment and restaurant districtThe site is across from the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, and many of its affordable apartments will be targeted to formerly homeless veterans served by the HUD-VASH voucher program. Read Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits article
POAH and partners break ground on redevelopment of former transit parking lot
POAH is working with Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation to transform a 2.57-acre parking lot next to the MBTA Mattapan Station into a mixed-use development with housing, retail and community space to be named The Loop at Mattapan Station. This innovative transit-oriented development project will provide 135 units of critically-needed affordable and market-rate housing in the Mattapan community.

When the shutdown orders came down, the POAH development team knew it had to have a plan to deal with all the potential scenarios. Even before the orders were issued, POAH began internal discussions on how we would address work delays or new protocols to protect management staff, the families and seniors who live in our communities and on-site construction workers
POAH Receives $2.5 Million Award to promote Trauma Resiliency in Affordable Housing
The grant from Enterprise Community Partners and Wells Fargo will allow the POAH Communities team to explore trauma-informed innovations in resident services, property management and physical design. The result will be a more equitable model for affordable housing that reduces evictions; improves resident and staff retention; promotes healthy, physical design; and contributes to individual and community resiliency.
