THE THOUGHT LEADERSHIP ISSUE

As we near the end of 2019, we look back at a productive year of acquiring and developing much-needed affordable housing across the country and providing services to our 17,000 residents. We asked a few of our staff to share the creative solutions they used to get successful results - from leveraging financial incentives for energy savings to expanding local partnerships. We are pleased to share their thoughts with you here.

Focusing on high-energy users helps save water, reduce carbon emissions

Managing energy use and cost for a portfolio of over 11,000 affordable multi-family units can prove impossible without the right tools. At POAH , we own over 100 properties in 11 states and 4 climate zones, which not surprisingly, are different ages, have different designs, materials, energy systems, metering, and population types. All said, each building can operate drastically different. For this reason POAH has dedicated a subset of their Design and Building Performance team solely to energy management. read the article

CINCINNATI

Redefining "Place" and Connecting Residents to Neighborhood Businesses

As newcomers to Cincinnati last year, POAH Communities faced a unique challenge when planning to introduce a community impact program because our newly-acquired rental apartments are spread across 140 buildings in 6 neighborhoods.

But our asset-based, community-building strategy built on the 4 Ps

The Play Library in Cincinnati is a community partner

- People, Places, Process and Partnership - led us to look around at what was already in the neighborhood that could serve as a resource.
