POAH cuts ribbon on former South Chicago YMCA building - now senior housing

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Congresswoman Robin Kelly and 10th Ward Alderwoman Susan Sadlowski-Garza helped POAH celebrate the grand re-opening of the former South Chicago YMCA, now known as the South Chicago Salud Center and Senior Housing on Dec. 18. Purchased in 2019, the property recently underwent significant rehab work with improvements to 101 senior apartments and the repurposing of the former non-residential YMCA spaces now operated by Claretian Associates for community services, after-school programming and other resources.

Non-profit Purchase Options Need Strengthening in LIHTC Program - Federal legislation and state action needed

The Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program is the nation’s longest-running and most successful program for affordable housing production and preservation. However, recent developments have called into question the ultimate ownership and stability of promised long term affordability of some of these properties. There are some solutions proposed in the Build Back Better bill. 
Abt Study shows rise in income through Family Self Sufficiency participation
Resident participation in one of the Family Self Sufficiency programs administered by Compass Working Capital in six POAH properties in New England is associated with an average increase of $3,709 (24%) in annual earned income over 2.5 years.
POAH opens Terrapin Ridge Apartments on Cape Cod, MA
Sandwich Housing Authority leadership, Select Board members, partners and residents cut the ribbon at Terrapin Ridge Apartments on Cape Cod, Massachusetts in October. The development is a new construction affordable senior and family housing community in a highly desirable resort area.
