Our newsletter sharing PRISSEM's latest efforts to empower HBCU STEM excellence and reminders about important National Science Foundation funding deadlines.

THRIVING THROUGH UNCERTAINTY

At PRISSEM we remain resolute that our futures depend on HBCUs, their faculty, and their students serving as leaders in the STEM enterprise. We remain committed to supporting HBCUs and encourage faculty to continue pushing towards their goals, even through these trying times. Let us know what we can do to support you in doing your important work.

We share your concerns that certain funding opportunities may no longer exist and recognize that some have already been archived. However we still believe now is the time to write the proposals you have been intending to or even started to write. We are confident that even in the absence of certain funding opportunities, others will still exist to support your work and ideas. The next few weeks will provide some clarity as to how NSF, NIH, and other federal agencies will continue to support research funding and we stand ready to support you whatever may come.

Finally, while we always advise you to follow guidance from your institution and sponsored programs office, we’d also like to point to two answers NSF recently provided regarding Executive Orders:

NSF can not take action to delay or stop payment for active awards based solely on actual or potential non-compliance with the Executive Orders.

Yes. Proposals may be submitted on Research.gov.

Let us be guided by the mission of our HBCUs and do all we can to educate our students, serve our communities, and move forward the important research we do.

PRISSEM CELEBRATES

Please join us in celebrating attendees of our Faculty Writing Retreat hosted by the IBM-HBCU Quantum Center and PRISSEM Academic Services. Fourteen faculty from seven HBCUs met in Alexandria, VA for a 2.5-day workshop to aide participants in writing competitive grant proposals to pursue research and educational activities in Quantum Information Science and Engineering. We were energized by the fruition of our shared vision to empower STEM faculty and expand the capacity of HBCUs to drive further development of the quantum revolution, and to do so in a way that enhances our skills in communicating science and fosters networking and community.

Participant Dr. Yang Liu, from Computer Information Systems at North Carolina Central University, said this about his experience:

"...This retreat provided me with practical guidance on preparing NSF-targeted proposals while fostering a supportive environment for networking. Engaging with peers who share an interest in QISE led to meaningful discussions about potential collaborations. I deeply appreciate the IBM-HBCU Quantum Center, the PRISSEM team, and the coaches for their support and constructive feedback throughout this experience."
