Dear Pleasantville Families,

On Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, the Board of Education approved the Pleasantville Forward Capital Project to move to a community vote on December 17th, 2024. This project will include several upgrades to facilities used by all of our students and represents a substantial and timely improvement to the safety and functionality of facilities across the district. The Pleasantville Forward Capital Project includes the following:

Safety and Security Updates:

  • Upgrading security infrastructure, including lockdown technology and PA (Public Address) systems in all three schools

Internal Systems and Equipment Replacements:

  • Upgrading the auditorium lighting at the High School
  • Replacing original air conditioning equipment (chillers, water pumps, evaporators) at Bedford Road School
  • Replacing hot water pumps at the High School

Outdoor Facilities Improvements:

  • Replacing the playground turf, equipment, and rubber surfaces at Bedford Road School
  • Re-turfing the High School main field and lower field and resurfacing the track
  • Adding lighting to the High School main field
  • Turfing the upper field between the High School main field and the tennis courts
  • Adding outdoor bathroom facilities and fencing for the fields between the High School and Middle School
  • Rebuilding the retaining wall at the Middle School
  • Turfing the High School back field

The overall estimated cost of this capital project is $15,000,000. $2,000,000 will be drawn from fund balance and the Future Capital Projects Reserve Fund, established in May of 2022. The remaining $13,000,000 will be funded with a 15-year bond.

An average household will experience an increase in annual property taxes of approximately $167 per year for the first two years (2027-28 and 2028-29 school years), after which the impact of this capital project will become tax neutral. This means that households will not see an increase in their taxes from this project for the last 13 years of the bond. This is due to the reduction of existing debt service.

On October 23rd, 2024, you are invited to attend a community forum at 7 pm in the Pleasantville High School Auditorium. We will explain the purpose, scope, timeline and finances and answer questions about this capital project. For more information about the Pleasantville Forward Capital Project or voting, please visit our website.

Please save the date for the community vote for the Pleasantville Forward Capital Project on December 17th, 2024 from 6:30 am to 9:00 pm in the Middle School Multi-Purpose Room.

For the youth,

Dr. Tina DeSa
