Dear Pleasantville Families and Community Members,

I am writing to share some enhancements we are making to how our district’s school buildings, grounds and facilities are utilized by our community, including the newly installed outdoor publicly accessible AED machines. The District’s facilities are primarily to be used for the purpose of educating students within the district. Given the limited space within our community, they are also a valuable resource for the entire Pleasantville community. The Pleasantville Board of Education recognized there was a need to strengthen and enhance our policies and processes to ensure the facilities are being utilized in a responsible manner. Based on this, the board recently revised the policy for the use of our district facilities.

To summarize, the policy now primarily focuses on a clear pathway for use of our facilities and the enforcement of this pathway. The intention is to make our facilities available to community members to the greatest extent possible in a responsible and safe manner. Over the past several years we have seen an increase in the unauthorized use of our fields by adult leagues, adults conducting paid coaching trainings, and bicycles and motorbikes in areas where they should not be. These limit the Pleasantville community’s use of our fields and also contribute to a decrease in the useful life of our facilities. You should expect to see increased enforcement of these rules by contracted security personnel moving forward.

Automated External Defibrillator “AED”

In order to support the health and safety of our community, the District has installed three outdoor AEDs. The locations are:

  • BRS – affixed to the building next to the main entrance
  • High School and Middle School Fields – affixed to the Middle School behind the basketball court and bleachers
  • High School Backfield – affixed to the shed behind the softball field

In the event of an emergency, these AEDs are ready and accessible for use by the community. Directions on how to access the machines are on the boxes.

We look forward to a greater utilization of our facilities by our students and the community in the future. If you have any questions on the process for obtaining a permit to utilize the field, you can find more information our website.

For the youth,

Dr. Tina DeSa

Superintendent of Schools
