Dear Supporters

READY Is Now A Member Of The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber connects leaders, changemakers, and doers across the region to solve problems, shape policy, and open doors—for today’s workforce and tomorrow’s economy.

READY is proud to join the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce. This membership strengthens our connection to Rochester’s business and community leaders while creating new opportunities to advocate for quality schools, build meaningful partnerships, and support a stronger future for Rochester’s young people.

As we have previously noted, families across Rochester’s public education landscape—including the Rochester City School District and public charter schools—continue to confront uneven access, persistent inequities, and student outcomes that remain far below where they should be.

In a full-circle moment, the Rochester Chamber of Commerce was part of this work in 1986 focusing on education advocacy.

In our July 2026 newsletter, we reflected on a pivotal moment in 1986, when the Urban League of Rochester released A Call to Action , sounding the alarm about an education system in crisis.

Throughout the document, recommendations emphasized the shared responsibility of the entire Rochester community, including the business community, to help advance meaningful education reform.

The report called on Rochester to respond with urgency and collective action, not someday, but then.

At READY, we believe the time is now to reignite the relationship between Rochester’s families, educators, business leaders, and community partners. By working together, we can strengthen our schools, expand opportunities for students, and build a brighter future for our entire community.

We are answering the call to bring families, educators, business leaders, and community partners together to create meaningful and lasting change for Rochester’s students.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

READY Invests in GoodSchoolsRoc to Strengthen School Access and Ease Costs for Rochester Charter Schools

Investment reflects READY’s broader strategy to support families, educators, and schools while strengthening Rochester’s public education ecosystem

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — August 2026 — Rochester Education and Development for Youth (READY) announced a significant investment in GoodSchoolsRoc, a centralized enrollment platform that helps Rochester families explore and apply to participating public charter schools through a single application process.

The investment is part of READY’s broader commitment to strengthening Rochester’s education landscape by investing not only in schools, but also in the infrastructure, tools, educators, and family supports that help quality public schools thrive. READY works as an education catalyst across Rochester’s public education ecosystem — district and charter — to expand access to high-quality schools and aims to increase the number of Rochester students enrolled in quality schools from approximately 3,000 today to 10,000 by 2034.

Introducing

Welcoming Christol Wright

Meet READY’s Rochester Youth Year AmeriCorps VISTA member.

About Rochester Youth Year

READY is excited to welcome Christol Wright as our Rochester Youth Year VISTA.

Rochester Youth Year is an AmeriCorps VISTA-sponsored year of service that matches recent graduates from local area colleges with community agencies to create, expand, or sustain initiatives that alleviate the effects of poverty on Rochester youth and families. As AmeriCorps VISTA members, Rochester Youth Year fellows provide indirect, capacity-building service. This means that they do not directly support clients, but instead create sustainable systems, processes, and infrastructure for their partner organization to more efficiently and effectively provide those supports.

VISTA members put their degrees to work through:

• Community outreach
• Recruiting and managing volunteers
• Leveraging funding through grants or fundraising
• Conducting research
• Designing culturally relevant curriculum
• Assessing programmatic effectiveness
