NASA Space Camp February 20-23, 2018
|
|
The Northbridge High School Science Club is sponsoring a camp for students in grades 5 through 8 during February vacation. The hours of the camp will be 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM Tuesday, February 20 through Friday, February 23. Camp will open with a video discussion with a retired NASA Astronaut and engineer, Dr. Charles Camarda, who will give the students a challenge to work on during the week. Participants will work on 3D printer and use virtual reality to study Mars. On Friday, Dr. Camarda will be joining the students during camp to learn how the groups responded to his challenge and what design they developed. Cost for the program is $100. The last basketball games of the season will be played on Tuesday, February 13th against McCloskey Middle School. The girls game will begin at 5:30pm and the boys will follow at 6:45pm. The NMS Band and Chorus will be performing the National Anthem before the girls game. All player's names will be announced before the games. There will be contests for students at halftime of each game. Admission price will be $2 for adults and $1 for students. All proceeds will go to the Northbridge Booster Club

Students Shine at Bridge Building Competetion
|
|
Six NMS Competition Bridge Building Teams competed recently in the model bridge program, sponsored by the Boston Society of Civil Engineers. This year sixty teams of high school and middle school students braved the cold on Saturday, February 3, to travel to Wentworth Institute of Technology with bridges that were less than 24 ounces, constructed from paint stirrers and hot glue. Each bridge is set onto a platform and tested with weight to the point of failure. Among nineteen identified middle schools, one of the Northbridge teams came in third place for efficiency, a ratio of bridge weight to total weight carried. Please click

The library has new activities, new books, and new hours!
|
Students checked out
497 books
from the NMS library in January!
With many students and parents requesting more after school library hours, we are now open after school every day until 3:00pm.

Makey Makey Kits
In February, we introduced Makey Makey kits for in-library use.
Students can experiment to see what items conduct electricity, and they can even create their own touchpads and controllers!
5th graders Laighden Mercadante, Mason Jacobs, Liam Robertson, Elijah Erickson, and Wesley Porcelli make touchpads out of oranges!

The library would like to extend a thank you to retired teacher and substitute Mrs. Thistle for donating supplies for our craft table!
Students can work on crafts in the library during lunch or after school.
6th graders Madison Marcotte, Kiara Castro, Allison Canal, and Elise Lowe use plastic lace to create bracelets and keychains.

The Northbridge Middle School Community Closet exists to provide new and gently used clothing, school supplies, and other daily essentials at no cost to Northbridge MIddle School’s students and their families. The service will empower students and families to lead healthy and productive lives making it possible for them to achieve success at greater levels.
In addition, the Community Closet aims to nurture compassion through service within the community and to foster awareness of Northbridge’s diverse community.

"PBIS" is short for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports. PBIS is a framework or approach for assisting school personnel in adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students.
PBIS IS a prevention-oriented way for school personnel to:
- Organize evidence-based practices,
- Improve their implementation of those practices
- Maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students
