Care management expanded to unlicensed practice personnel
The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Provider Delivered Care Management (PDCM) program provides an opportunity to enhance care coordination, patient satisfaction, improve quality of care and prepare a practice to participate in risk contracts. In addition, there is an opportunity for the practice to earn a 5% PDCM value-based reimbursement (VBR) if targets are met and a potential ADDITIONAL 5% if specific criteria are met to achieve the Advanced Practice -VBR.

BCBSM recently announced new opportunities for unlicensed practice personnel (i.e. medical assistants) to provide and receive reimbursement for the delivery of provider delivered care management services! Specific training and documentation requirements must be met.

If you would like more information on this exciting opportunity, please contact Francine Burley at Francine.burley@thephysicianalliance.org or (586) 498-3588.

Study seeks to improve low HPV vaccine rates
A survey being conducted by Karmanos Cancer Institute seeks to look at coordinated care efforts to better understand some barriers and facilitators within a system in order to work toward improving coordinated care around the HPV vaccine.

Rates of HPV vaccine series completion in Michigan are well below the goals set by Healthy People 2020. HPV vaccine uptake is especially poor in Genesee, Oakland, Macomb, Wayne and Monroe counties. Karmanos Cancer Institute, one of two NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in Michigan, is one of 12 NCI centers to receive funding from the National Cancer Institute to conduct an environmental survey of barriers and facilitators of HPV vaccination in southeast Michigan.

Who should take this survey:  Pediatric, family medicine and primary care physicians and other clinicians (PA, NP, RN, MA) who see patients ages 9-17; and practice directors/managers and nurse managers.

This survey is voluntary and will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. A $10 gift card will be sent to those who complete surveys by early May.

Please direct questions or concerns regarding this survey project to Sara Kim, research manager, at  kimsa@karmanos.org  or (313) 576-8875.
