Refer your patients to a diabetes prevention program
The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) helps patients make lifestyle changes to reduce the risk for Type 2 diabetes. Patients must have risk factors or a diagnosis of pre-diabetes to meet the class requirements. The program meets for 16 weekly sessions, and six monthly follow-up sessions. The program features:

  • Trained lifestyle coach to guide and encourage participants
  • CDC-approved curriculum
  • Support from others working on the same goals
  • Skills to help participants lose weight and be more physically active

Ascension Michigan offers free Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) classes in metro Detroit. Patients can register at healthcare.ascension.org/events or (248) 849-5752.

HPV vaccine resources available to help stimulate conversations
The human papillomavirus (HPV) causes more than 31,000 cancers in men and women each year.The infection is linked with 90 percent of cervical and anal cancers and 70 percent of vaginal and vulvar cancers.

The HPV vaccine helps prevent multiple cancers. Four out of five people will get HPV. The HPV vaccine is 97 percent effective at preventing infection when given before exposure. Prioritizing the HPV vaccine at the practice level can help:
  • Provide quality care to patients
  • Reduce future disease and costs for patients E
  • Ehance a provider and practice's roles as champions for patients

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, American Cancer Society, Michigan Cancer Consortium, and National HPV Vaccination Roundtable provide free informative materials on the HPV vaccine . These include:
