New materials help practices educate patients on key quality metrics
The Physician Alliance created a variety of patient education marketing materials for practices to use. These materials can help stimulate conversations with patients regarding important preventive screenings, decreasing utilization of tests and more. Topics are related to key quality metrics, including diabetes, blood pressure management, care management, colorectal cancer screening, pediatric self management and more.

Practices are encouraged to display posters and materials in waiting areas and exam rooms, and share with patients. The patient education marketing materials are available complimentary to The Physician Alliance member practices as part of our member benefits.

View the patient education materials on TPA's website . Documents can be downloaded or requested via the online order form.
Rates for e-prescribing of controlled substances continue to rise
Ninety-one people die each day in the United States from opioid-related overdoses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As attention grows on managing this national epidemic, physicians can do their part by participating in electronic prescribing, or e-prescribing, of controlled substances.

Eliminating paper prescription and implementing e-prescribing of controlled substances helps connect physicians and pharmacists to identify potential abuse, reduce fraud and improve care. Physicians can electronically prescribe controlled substances in a single workflow which cuts back on drug errors and eliminates lost prescriptions. It aids in tracking patients and help to improve quality of patient care.

The Physician Alliance has been working with practices to implement e-prescribing in practices. E-prescribing rates increased from 47.40% in the first quarter of 2019 to 51.20% at the end of the third quarter. TPA's target goal for 2019 is 52%.

The Michigan Opioid Prescribing Engagement Network (OPEN) provides great   resources for providers  on e-prescribing and educating patients on safe use of opioids.  Michigan Automated P rescription System  (MAPS) helps to monitor patients who may be seeking   opioid prescriptions from multiple physicians. MAPS and other coordinated responses help assist the state in their efforts to address opioid drug abuse.

Practices interested in participating in electronic prescribing of controlled substances can contact Fran Burley at for more information. View this brief 5 minute video at .
What are your patients saying about you?
Patient reviews are the single most effective bit of marketing you can do for your practice…only YOU can’t do anything. Your patients have to spread the good word about your practice for you. You can be the greatest clinician in the country but if a new prospective patient goes online and sees that you only have a 3-star rating, it could shatter your credibility and the likelihood of that patient walking through your doors.
Online reviews have developed that type of power. The influence of online reviews is at an all-time high and the rates of consuming these reviews to help shape a decision are continuing to grow. High review scores and a large volume of reviews are now the price of admission. Patients are becoming dismissive of healthcare services with bad reviews or no reviews at all.
These reviews are so important to patients for several reasons:
  1. Validates the quality of care in your practice
  2. Social sharing – they are getting this information from their most trusted resources -peers, family, and friends
  3. It gives them control over their healthcare “shopping” experience when looking for new doctors
Managing online reviews across all of the available online platforms can be a challenge. The ultimate goal is to grow the volume of positive reviews, manage the negative reviews, and ensure that all reviews are AUTHENTIC and GENUINE. They need to come from real patients with real experiences.
Whether you know about it or not, your patients are talking about you online…shouldn’t you be a part of that conversation?
