Dear EMDR Community,,

These past few months have been an exciting and busy time for our organization. We hosted and participated in several events and had the opportunity to connect with many amazing individuals committed to bringing healing to the world. If you're new to our organization, welcome! We're so glad you're here and invite you to explore this newsletter to learn more about who we are and what we do.

A recent highlight was our Shapiro Effect group photo at the EMDRIA Conference (scroll down to see the photo). Coming together in that moment was a powerful reminder of Dr. Francine Shapiro’s lasting legacy and the ripple effect it continues to inspire. At Trauma Recovery/HAP are honored to be a part of the movement with you all.

This year also marks our 30th anniversary—a milestone we’ve been celebrating by capturing and sharing the stories of our incredible volunteers. Their voices tell the story of HAP’s past, present, and future, and we invite you to explore them on our 30th Anniversary page.

In this newsletter, we bring you updates on,

  • Growth of the Trauma Recovery Network®
  • A Recap of the 2025 HAP® Conference
  • Welcome to Our Newest Board Member
  • New Partnership with Springer Publishing
  • Annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony
  • and more!

We want to stay connected with you beyond this newsletter. If you haven't already, join our online community on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X.

Thank you for being an important part of our community. Together, we can continue to bring healing where it's most needed.

Sincerely,

Lori S. Pereira

Executive Director

The Shapiro Effect

#ShapiroEffect

We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make this moment possible. Over 50 of us came together at the EMDRIA Conference in Anaheim, California, to proudly wear our Shapiro Effect shirts and celebrate the lasting impact of Dr. Francine Shapiro.

It was a beautiful moment of connection and shared purpose. We hope every time you put on your shirt, you feel the power of the Shapiro Effect.

If you didn't have a chance to grab a Shapiro Effect t-shirt at the HAP Conference or EMDRIA Conference, don't worry, you can still purchase one on our 30th Anniversary Apparel Store!

Continued Growth Across the Trauma Recovery Network®

Individuals and communities continue to face an exhausting pace of both human-made and natural disasters this year, underscoring the urgent need for accessible mental health support. The Trauma Recovery Network (TRN®) was created to meet this need by providing pro bono EMDR Informed Early Interventions through dedicated local volunteers. This year, our network continues to grow, welcoming new TRN locations, new volunteer members, and new resources to strengthen our impact.

Thank you Cynthia Carr!

After years of dedicated service, we offer a heartfelt thank you to Cynthia Carr as she retires from our Board of Directors. Cynthia brought a wealth of legal expertise to the Board, drawing on her distinguished career as Deputy General Counsel, Director of International Legal Affairs, and Director of Planned Giving at Yale University, and as General Counsel at Save the Children. During her time with us, she offered invaluable guidance on both the Gift and Advancement Committees, as well as working groups focused on bylaws, the Trauma Recovery Network and International programs. We are deeply grateful for her wisdom, leadership, and unwavering commitment to advancing our mission.

A Celebration of Service: HAP® Annual Awards Ceremony

Each year we shine a spotlight on several outstanding volunteers and members of the EMDR community whose passion and service exemplify the very best of our mission.

In August, we honored the contributions of ten exceptional individuals/teams during our annual Volunteer Recognition Night, held as part of the 2025 HAP Conference.

Dr. Rosalie Thomas was presented the inaugural Shapiro Effect award in recognition of her extraordinary leadership and enduring impact on the global EMDR community.
