Winter 2023

In the latest episode of What's HAPpening, we are joined by Sonya Williams, MSW, LICSW, CMHS from Frontier Behavioral Health, a nonprofit organization in Spokane, WA that provides clinically and culturally appropriate behavioral healthcare and related services to individuals of all ages in collaboration with community partners.

Trauma Recovery/HAP has a long history of partnering with Frontier Behavioral Health and providing EMDR Basic training to their staff, so they in turn can use EMDR therapy to help their focus population.

Sonya talks with us about the impact and importance of having EMDR therapy trained clinicians at the agency. She also shares her personal motivation for participating in HAP’s trainings and why she believes all clinicians would benefit from having EMDR therapy in their toolbox.

The What's HAPpening podcast takes listeners behind the scenes and into the community that makes up Trauma Recovery/HAP.

New episodes release each month. You can listen on our website and on many popular podcast platforms, like iHeartRadio, Audible, and Spotify.
Carol Forgash has generously donating her course "Breaking the ACE: Poor Health Cycle with EMDR" to Trauma Recovery/HAP. It is now available on-demand in our Distance Learning Course Catalog. All proceeds from this course will support the mission of our organization.

Breaking the ACE: Poor Health Cycle with EMDR
Presented by: Carol Forgash, LCSW, BCD
Earn 3 EMDRIA Credits and 3 CE Credits

Description: This presentation will focus on the development of an EMDR Treatment plan including a focus on the disorders so prevalent in ACE (adverse childhood experiences) survivor/patients. The ACE questionnaire will be shown to be a focus of history taking and target development. The importance of the therapeutic relationship, which offers positive reinforcement, validation, and attunement to these clients, will be stressed.

Specialized techniques will be utilized in phases 1-2 to help the patient experience self-soothing, develop emotional regulation, manage any dissociative symptoms, and avoid re-traumatization in the health care setting. Phases 3-7 will emphasize specific work on clearing past ACEs as well as specific health issues. Skills development such as rehearsal, use of imagery and screen work will also be presented. Successful management of chronic, painful, and terminal illness will also be a focus of the workshop.

In late January, Trauma Recovery/HAP sponsored a specialty training with Dr. Roger Solomon with the goal not only to educate EMDR therapists on trauma and grief in the context of war, but also to raise much needed funds for our colleagues in Ukraine.

Presenter Roger Solomon led the training titled, "Ukraine War: How EMDR is Helpful with Trauma and Grief" with more than 100 participants.

Registration is open for the 2023 Trauma Recovery Network Conference taking place April 21-22, 2023 in Garden Grove, California.

This two-day conference centered on the theme “Building Community Response and Recovery” is an opportunity for Trauma Recovery Network volunteers, EMDR therapists and mental health professionals to come together, in-person, to network, build community, and expand their skills and knowledge.

We are excited to offer a new Scholarship Fund in 2023! The purpose of the Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships to master’s level (or higher) students that are interested in working in Community Mental Health.

Trauma Recovery/HAP will award approximately twenty scholarships per calendar year. Students will receive scholarship funds via a voucher to be used for Trauma Recovery/HAP EMDR Basic Training.

In 1999, Trauma Recovery/HAP responded to the large earthquake in Turkey by organizing the first EMDR trainings in that country.

The therapists we trained in EMDR were immediately able to offer EMDR treatment to the earthquake survivors and have built a strong EMDR community in Turkey.

Now the unthinkable has occurred again.
