Pardon Our Dust

Renovations of the credit union building are commencing the week of November 11th and will take about a couple weeks to complete. In addition to new flooring, carpet, paint, and furniture, we’re also installing some live edge boards for counters in the lobby provided by South Sound Wood here in Olympia. The boards are from a beech tree that was felled on the Capitol Campus to make way for the new caucus building under construction.

2024 marks the 40th year of WCLA Credit Union, and we look forward to sharing our refreshed space with you on your next visit.

While work is happening in and around the teller area and lobby, our Member Service Representatives Emily and Stephanie will be working in the next-door building, 2421. Services will not be interrupted.

In addition to the renovations, and after considerable due diligence, we’ve partnered with a new online and mobile banking vendor! We’ll continue to give you progress reports and provide ample notification before we go live, which is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. Expect a better user experience including the handheld convenience of a mobile banking app.

Also, now might be the perfect time to take advantage of our competitive certificate rates. We currently have a special rate for our 15-month certificate:

Earn up to 4.25% APY* on a 15-Month Certificate

Look for us at this year’s Pacific Logging Congress (PLC), which is being held the week of November 4-6 in Lihue, HI!

Our Sr. Loan Officer, Casey Smith, will be giving a presentation on the financing of the logging workforce. Additionally, our President & CEO, Charles Thompson, has joined the PLC’s Executive Board as Treasurer. We’re proud to be a PLC sponsor and look forward to seeing you in person.

Penny Cook, Operations Support Specialist

Meet Penny Cook. Penny joined WCLA Credit Union in the fall of 2017 as a MSR I and moved quickly into the MSR II position. She continued in the role of MSR II until the fall of 2021, when she assumed her current role of Operations Support Specialist and continues training new staff with her knowledge and experience.

Penny took accounting and bookkeeping classes in high school and was hooked. She started working as a part-time bookkeeper at the age of 15. Her career path took many twists and turns along the way, even working at and managing a construction business. It wasn’t until 2003 that she started her banking career as a teller and quickly moved into leadership and training roles within 2 years. She moved into an accounting position in 2006 and then on to the operations side in 2015. Penny loves spending time with her husband and their many fur babies. They enjoy camping, hiking, gardening, cooking and playing video games together.
