Project Spotlight: Multi-Ethnic Domestic Violence Project (MEDOVI)
MEDOVI provides immigration legal services to foreign-born Maryland residents who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault and/or human sex trafficking. MEDOVI assists victims, and often their children, in obtaining remedies such as visas, permanent residency, and citizenship. MEDOVI aims to help clients obtain immigration status, thereby contributing to the safety and security of themselves and their families.
After MEDOVI helped a client became a citizen in 2018, the project then assisted her son. He recently was sworn in as a citizen. Suzanne Bailey, MEDOVI Project Director, writes that "...one of [his] first qestions was how to register to vote. We are so proud of them both and congratulate them on these life changing achievements." Congratulations to these new citizens, and thank you to the MEDOVI staff for helping to make it a reality!
