Your Future Self Called… and They Want You to Register for Classes! šŸ“š

It might feel like you’re just trying to survive this semester, but here’s a little secret: having a plan for next semester can help you stay motivated and focused right now!

Meeting with your academic advisor gives you a chance to map out your next steps, make sure you’re on track for your goals, and avoid any last-minute surprises when registration rolls around. When you know where you’re headed, it’s easier to see how the work you’re putting in today connects to the bigger picture. So, don’t wait until finals week to think about what’s next!

Weekly Task: Schedule time with your advisor, plan your classes, and give your future self one less thing to stress about. You’ve got goals to reach, and we’re here to help you get there!

Mental Health Awareness: You are NOT alone!

Sometimes silence sounds like

"no one would understand"

"I'm fine" or

"I don't want to be a burden"

At SUNY Niagara we believe that no one should face life's challenges alone. Our community is built on connection, compassion, and support—reminding every student, employee, and community member that their voice matters and help is available. By reaching out, checking in, and supporting one another, we can turn silence into conversation and isolation into belonging.

At SUNY Niagara, community sounds like:

"YOU ARE NOT ALONE."

Health & Wellness Center:

The Health & Wellness Center will share information on the CAMPUSWELL site here. Click more info to view articles and videos to help with your well being.

Also, during the month of October, stop by the Learning Commons to read the personal stories of 15 individuals affected by mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, OCD, and trauma.

The mobile exhibit encourages open conversations about mental health and highlights the importance of support, empathy, and access to care.

JEDI Chat: Pronouns, Respect & Belonging October 21st at 2:30 pm in Learning Commons

In recognition of International Pronouns Day on October 21st,

the JEDI Committee is excited to host our first

JEDI Chat: Pronouns, Respect & Belonging!

JEDI Chats will provide an informal opportunity for our campus community to explore topics related to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging through shared learning and conversation.

For our first gathering, we’ll listen to a 15-minute TEDx talk by Mala Matacin titled ā€œWhy Gender Pronouns Matter.ā€ This talk will serve as a conversation starter as we reflect on how everyday language can foster respect, connection, and a sense of belonging on our campus.

You can participate in one of two ways:

• Walk and Listen: Meet in the Learning Commons at 2:30 p.m. We’ll walk around campus while listening to the TEDx talk, followed by a 15-minute group discussion. (Bring your own headphones)

• Listen on Your Own: Watch/Listen to the TEDx talk beforehand at your convenience, then meet us in the Learning Commons at 2:15 p.m. to join the discussion.

Watch the TEDx Talk: Why Gender Pronouns Matter – Mala Matacin, TEDxHartford

Whether you join us for the walk or come ready to discuss the talk, we hope you’ll take this opportunity to learn, share perspectives, and reflect on the small ways we can help make SUNY Niagara a more welcoming and inclusive community.

A Tribute to Our Veterans

We will be celebrating the veterans on our campus with our annual photo show on the monitors around campus for Veterans Day. If you are a veteran or you have family who have served or are serving in the military, please send your photos with names, the branch that they served in, and their relation to you to Seth Lamar tlamar@niagaracc.suny.edu.

Alternatively, bring them to Veteran Services in B-103 or the Financial Aid Office in A-building by Wednesday, November 4th.

SUNY Niagara is hosting its Veterans Day Ceremony on

Tuesday, November 10th at 11:00 AM in the Veterans Memorial Park. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Notar Building Lobby (A Building). As always, all students and staff are invited to participate in the ceremony and reception.
