After breaking over 1,000 adoptions for the year in October, November did not slow down at all, as we're now over 1,150 adoptions so far in 2020!
We're expecting to now adopt out over 1,200 cats and dogs to new, loving families! Each new adoption is a new record for us, and we're so excited to end 2020 with one final push! Thank you all for everything you've done for ACS!

To make your contribution go even further to helping animals, this year we've partnered with The Staffworks Fund Save A Life Campaign, which will MATCH donations dollar for dollar for the first $10,000 raised, and then match $2,000 for every $5,000 raised after that up to $100,000!
Additionally, if you donate via Facebook at 8 a.m. SHARP tomorrow, Facebook will also match your contribution, meaning your donation could go THREE TIMES as far tomorrow!

ACS Welcomes 10 More S. Korean Rescue Dogs!
|
|
Animal Care Sanctuary again partnered with Humane Society International (HSI) in November to welcome 10 dogs who were rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea!
These canines were rescued along with approximately 160 others before being boarded onto an international flight and flown to the United States to find their forever homes! The 10 that arrived at ACS are all kinds of ages, breeds and sizes, and they're slowly beginning to become available this week following veterinary and behavior assessments!

Pet Safety Tips for the Holidays!
The year 2020 is almost mercifully over, but even though this year has been one many would like to forget, there's still holiday cheer to be shared!
But as with many holidays, Christmas and the surrounding festivities also bring health and safety risks for your pet.
For example, holiday favorites like tinsel, poinsettias and mistletoe (and, of course, chocolate) are poisonous to pets, so we at ACS advise caution with these plants and materials if not forgoing them altogether.
Additionally, live Christmas trees can cause some irritation to chewy cats as well as some irritation to you if your cats are the more adventurous type. Putting orange slices in the tree's water or spraying citrusy cat repellant could save your tree, your cat and yourself from unwanted interactions. For your dog, we recommend a tree skirt around the base of your home conifer your protect your tree's water supply as well as the canine from potential tree bacteria.
If this is your pet's first Christmas in your home, remember that it can be quite stressful for them because they do not know what the holidays are! Take things slow and be patient with them. If you have family planning to visit, remember that more people can equal more stress for your pet, so let your pet meet family members slowly and gradually if they're skittish around new people.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from our vet team!

How long have you been a part of ACS? Why did you get involved?
“I have been at ACS for 5 years. I came to ACS looking for a change in my career, and I couldn’t be happier. I love helping the animals find their way to their homes.”
Are you a dog person or a cat person?
“I am definitely a cat person, although I do have a dog as well. I enjoy cats’ attitudes and independence, although mine are all very social.”
Tell us about your pets!
“I have 4 cats and a dog. My oldest cat, Crow (10yr)came to my house as a grease covered stray. He was welcomed in and made himself right at home. He loves nothing more than to be held and adored. My next oldest is Mayrah (5yr), an ACS adoptee. I knew as soon as I did her intake exam she was my cat. She is a total love bug. My youngsters are Bacardi (3yr) and Ludwig (1yr), also both from ACS. Bacardi is my shadow, always with me. She is also the enforcer of the rules even though she is the smallest. Ludwig was thrown out a car window on ACS property as a young kitten, and I offered to foster him as his non stop loud meowing was a bit annoying to the other kittens. My son and I became quite attached to him and we adopted him. He is the mischief maker and most playful one. My dog, Goose (1yr) came to ACS this May, and was just the dog I was looking for. She gets along well with the cats (a must), and is very entertaining. Her nickname is Silly Goose.”

We always love hearing from our adopters, but Ken Zeserson, who recently adopted Goofy (now named Mookie), gave us a heart-touching update that we just had to share with all of you.
"In short, he is the most remarkable dog I have ever had.... He is a miracle who has entered my life at the perfect time and thanks to you for all your help and guidance, Amy (our canine adoption coordinator)." - Ken
Mookie came to ACS at less than one year old. He was transported by St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center to our East Smithfield location after found as a stray in Lancaster, Pa.
Ken even wrote a song for Mookie, and it's the best thing you'll see today.

This lovely kitty is Ruth!
Ruth was accepted to ACS as an emergency intake after she had been thrown from a car.
At first, she had trouble walking after she suffered nerve damage from her injuries. But with our staff leading her through her rehabilitation, she's made huge strides, literally and figuratively, in her recovery!
In fact, a local news station heard Ruth's story, and wanted to tell it to the whole region!

Happy Holidays
from Wellsboro!
With COVID forcing us to cancel many of our Christmas events, our Wellsboro crew has been working extra hard to make this Christmas extra special for both families and animals!
We couldn't do what we do and reach as many families without their help, and they dearly miss being in their community during the holidays.
So if you live near Wellsboro, see what special friend you could take home for holidays and swing by the gift shop while you're there!

As a Monthly Donor, you are providing a gift that can be used for animals in their hour of need. Your donation will help ACS rescue pets from overcrowded kill shelters, inhumane conditions, hoarding situations and puppy mills. Your support will help us make more future animal rescues possible, as well as give us the resources we need to provide those animals with the attention and medical care that they need to be adopted. Monthly donations provide security to assure that ACS always has the resources needed to provide for animals at a moment’s notice. To become a monthly donor, please sign up online at www.animalcaresanctuary.org or contact Terry McKendry at tmckendry@animalcaresanctaury.org.
