Celebrating 35 Years of Serving the Coachella Valley

Nothing in higher ed is more exciting than seeing students graduate. CSUSB recently hosted three days of in-person commencement ceremonies (Dec. 9-11) in the university’s Coussoulis Arena. This is the first time we have hosted in-person commencements since the pandemic began in March 2020. All graduates from the Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 were invited, and many PDC students participated in the ceremonies with their fellow graduates. I am so proud of our PDC students.

We will continue to face tremendous challenges moving forward. With the new Omicron variant, infections may increase after the busy holiday season, but we will be more resilient after a very successful campus re-population effort since August 2021. Our students will be more resilient too as more have received their COVID-19 vaccinations and our campus has onsite testing facilities provided by the university.
The Palm Desert Campus continues to provide in-person, online and hybrid course options and remains flexible to accommodate the needs of our students.
I know that 2022 will be a great year for us all!

PDC nursing students distribute care packets

PDC nursing students competed in a contest to collect supplies, including toiletries, socks, first aid kits and snacks, to be handed out at their Nursing Street Medicine sites throughout the Coachella Valley. They created 133 care packets for our local homeless population.
Congratulations to the Fall 2023 cohort for winning the contest, but they are all winners to us and we thank them for giving back to our community in so many ways.

In collaboration with Desert Oasis Healthcare and under faculty supervision, CSUSB Palm Desert Campus nursing students recently administered COVID-19 vaccinations to elementary school children at various locations within the Palm Springs Unified School District. These vaccination clinics not only provide valuable hands-on experience for our nursing students, but they also help our Coachella Valley community become healthier and safer.
