Great Gifts Available From Chamber Members
by Jim LaBelle
Over the years, I've often heard the following lament from family members: "I never know what to get you for Christmas." It's the thought that counts, of course. But heck, you might as well get something you actually want if they are taking the trouble to buy you something, right? So in that spirit, I've assembled 20 gift ideas obtainable from Chamber members that I think are pretty cool, and could be good gift ideas as well for someone challenging on your nice list this year:
New Member Spotlight - Brown Dog Carriers
Please join us in welcoming one of our newest members into the Chamber, Brown Dog Carriers. Graig and Christine Morin have been in business now for more than a year, with a focus on trucking, specifically contract hauling for other businesses. As a life-long trucker, Graig is pursuing a long-held dream to own his own transportation and logistics company.  Please reach out to them for any transportation needs, large or small. Located at 432 Elm St. in Biddeford, the Brown Dog name is an homage to their chocolate lab Lily, who travels daily with the team and has logged over 500,000 miles in the company's trucks (as a passenger, not a driver).
2019 Business After Hours Events
We're quickly filling up our 2019 calendar for Business After Hours events. If you'd like to host one in 2019, please reach out to us.

Our final Business After Hours for 2018 is at PeoplesChoice Credit Union at 5pm on 12/13. Please let us know if you will be attending!
Final Call for Prospective Chamber Board Members

We will be bringing a number of new Directors onto our Board in January to replace members whose term will be expiring. Serving on the Chamber's Board of Directors is a great way to make your membership and participation with the chamber even more impactful. If you are interested, please reach out to us at the Chamber for an application.  The deadline for all applications to be received for consideration is December 23rd, 2018.
  Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting
The Chamber's Annual meeting is scheduled for January 24th, 2019. The meeting will include breakfast, and will take place at the Hampton Inn in Saco, from 7:30 - 9:00am. Highlights from 2018 and plans for 2019 will be presented, along with formal voting on our new slate of officers and board members. In addition, Maine State Economist Amanda Rector will be giving a keynote address. Please register for this meeting. The cost is $20 per member.
Saco Center Intern Available
Byron Belanger, a local UMA student, is available and interested in serving as an intern with a local company, preferably in a marketing capacity. He's available full-time in the Spring semester (approx. 12 weeks). This would fulfill credits for him, so the company would need to provide an outline of the position along with learning outcomes for the internship. If you are interested in having an intern, please contact Dan Philbrick, Saco Center Director, at (207) 282-4111 x3633.
 Business Thought Du Jour
A number of studies have documented that, regardless of the industry you are in, acquiring a new customer is five times more costly than retaining an existing one. The takeaway? Stay Close to Your Current Customers!
Create a Social Media Video for your Business
Chamber member Your Real Estate Team @ Keller-Williams is continuing to produce free videos promoting your business to post on social media. The videos are easy to do and are a few minutes long. We've been getting great feedback. If you're interested, please contact them at:
