New Tabletop and Outdoor Games at the Library

The dog days of July are now upon us, and the heat is ON! Time to find some AC or shade and play board or yard games with your friends and family. SCL now has an assortment of both kinds of games for checkout.

Outside yard games are always fun for backyard barbecues and get-togethers, and most can be played by all age group - kids to grandparents. In addition to the classic games of "horseshoes" and "cornhole", the library has spike ball, ladder toss, croquet, bocce, pickleball, and more! Search under "outdoor game" in the catalog.

When it's raining outside, or too dark to run around, you can gather your group around the table and play a board game. The library has a wide variety, suitable for kids, families and just adults. Search for "tabletop game" in the catalog.

All games check out for 3 weeks, with automatic renewal if no one else has placed it on hold. Enjoy!

Selected SCL TableTop Games
-recommended by Mo, Library Associate at the
Prior Lake Library

These are my top five tabletop board game recommendations. I have older kids, so these are probably good recommendations for families with teens.

Mysterium - This game had a little bit of a learning curve, but once we got started, and played a few times it was a lot of fun. Similar in concept to Clue, but more complicated and abstract.

Pandemic - This is a collaborative board game. As the name implies, your group is trying to solve a global pandemic from spreading by taking on various roles. Good team building!

Herd Mentality -This game is always a hit, and popular with the high school and college crowd.

Azul - This ornate game has beautiful pieces. It is a strategic game, and the rules are easy to follow.

Codenames - A very easy game, that can be played in groups. We brought this game to the cabin and had a blast playing with grandparents, and teens.
