Memory Care Kits Now Available

In 2019, we received grant funding from Scott County Public Health to create "Memory Care Kits" for check out. And now that we're past the worst of the pandemic, we can finally circulate them to you.

These kits give caregivers or other family and friends ideas for good interaction and ways to spend time with folks going through memory loss. The kits were created in collaboration with Club Prior's Prior Lake Memory Café and a group of adult professionals in local memory care, YMCA adult programming, and the Alzheimer's Association, all who give support to those with memory loss and their families.

There are three types of kits designed for Early, Mid- and Late Stage Memory loss. To find them in the catalog, search for them under "memory care kits". Kits check out for 3 weeks.

Extended Access Pilot Project

Extended Access is a technology system that provides self-service access to the library outside of staffed open hours at designated locations. It works similarly to college libraries, 24/7 gyms, co-working lofts, and other shared public spaces.

Our pilot begins September 1, 2021 at the Jordan Library, and we are seeking 50 pilot participants to test the system and give feedback on how we can enhance the service. If you are interested in participating, visit our website here to find out more and to sign up for an orientation session.

Awesome App Audios! - recommended by Lisa O.

Summer Construction Season is upon us and while navigating around all the pretty orange cones here's some Non-Fiction eAudiobook finds to listen to on your Libby app.

Summer brings Sun...and heat....and more heat. The Electric War by Mike Winchell transports you back to Edison’s era, the tests of Tesla, and wonders of Westinghouse. The history of such inventors and the discovery of electricity really makes one appreciate todays AC.

Summer also brings fishing season - The Feather Thief by Kirk Wallace Johnson is a rare, intriguing story that will make you love taking a detour from what you thought you knew about fly fishing. Why is it entitled 'Feather Thief" -- just wait til you hear.

Summer is smiles and Channel Kindness by the Born This Way Foundation (Lady Gaga’s nonprofit organization) will make one smile think, realize, and wish. Enjoy a detour from negativity and bask in niceness!

The Complete and Utter History of the World by Samuel Stewart Aged 9 by Sarah Burton covers all seasons and lots more...even construction. A much-needed point of view shared by Samuel gives everyone a huge hug from history. In a roundabout way, this young man explains everything and it finally makes sense.
