Update from the Executive Director

As we move through an exciting season of growth and innovation at the West Virginia Health Information Network (WVHIN), I’m pleased to share a number of key updates and milestones that reflect the strength and direction of our organization.

WVHIN has recently launched a suite of new features aimed at enhancing the value and usability of our platform. These include My Patient Summary, the parsing of vital signs from CCDs, detailed Preventive Services data, and more. These enhancements are designed with our stakeholders in mind by making clinical data more accessible, timely, and actionable.

In addition, we’ve made meaningful progress in expanding our engagement with substance use disorder (SUD) and behavioral health organizations. We are working to build stronger data-sharing frameworks that support whole-person care, while ensuring that our approach respects privacy and aligns with applicable consent and regulatory requirements. The WVHIN Consent Tool continues to be a critical asset in this space by helping providers confidently manage patient permissions and access to sensitive information.

Our customer base continues to grow, and with it, our ability to deliver real value across the healthcare continuum, from hospitals and clinics to community-based and long-term care organizations. As we expand, we remain focused on delivering technology that simplifies coordination, reduces duplication, and ultimately improves health outcomes across The Mountain State.

The direction of WVHIN has never been more promising. Our team is energized by the work ahead, and we are deeply grateful to our partners across the state who continue to trust us as a resource and collaborator.

The WVHIN is proud to announce new and enhanced features and functions designed to enhance clinical efficiency and improve patient care coordination. Providers now have access to vital signs in Clinical Data that are parsed directly from Continuity of Care Documents (CCDs). Additionally, we’ve expanded our details and filters in Population Explorer to included Colorectal Screenings via Preventive Services data to support proactive care management and compliance with quality measures. Finally, the new My Patient Summary acts as a customizable dashboard, allowing users control over what their own landing page looks like for viewing patient data. These updates are part of WVHIN’s ongoing commitment to supporting providers with actionable, patient-centered information. Click below for more details on these exciting updates!

When you log into the WVHIN portal to upload your patient panel, you may notice some changes. In the Template Selection drop down, you will choose CEND Patient Panel in order to get your patient list to the correct place.

A new template is also available for download in the Panel Processor. While it is highly recommended that you use the new template, if you use the original version, you will be prompted to map the new column headers for three of the fields: CEND Start Date, Follow Up Date, and Appointment Missed Date. After upload, you may see further instructions as to how to map the headers.

A quick reminder – WVHIN users must be verified every 90 days to maintain their access. HIE Admins should be sure to audit themselves to avoid account suspension. Should your HIE Admin account(s) become suspended, please contact WVHIN Support at 1-844-468-5755 to be reactivated.
