City Governance Update

With Mayor Dougherty's resignation, the Common Council had three options for the remainder of his term (1 year): name a mayor, hold a special election, or not fill the position. At a special meeting on April 16 they opted to leave the position unfilled, a decision that will be revisited at the regular June council meeting. Lyn Cornelius was elected Council President at the last meeting in which Mayor Dougherty participated and remains in this position. This position is recognized as the Acting Mayor in the absence of the Mayor.

City Staffing Update

With the resignation of the clerk/treasurer, we are now staffed as follows:

  • Anne Adams - Acting Treasurer
  • Ashley Dickey - Acting City Clerk
  • Shaleen O’Krueg - Office Assistant
  • Joel Weber - Acting Zoning Administrator (in addition to his other more-than-full-time responsibilities)

And, back to help us meet a state financial reporting deadline -- Billie and Dionne

Thanks to these folks for their dedication in this time of transition.

Help With Fiscal Planning?

Council is establishing a Finance Committee to study and recommend ways forward in how we manage our funds and how we will address the looming structural deficit caused by State caps on the property tax levy (a problem we share with all Wisconsin municipalities). Please let us know (at email below) if you are interested in contributing to this committee's work.
